In November of that year, the Newcastle Gun Club held its first meeting and organized into two branches; one in the village of Newcastle and one in Everett. The club continued to meet regularly until December 15, 1855 when it disbanded due to lack of members.

By 1885 Newcastle had become a commercial center with stores and businesses lining Second Avenue northward from Union Street. By 1907 there were over 100 buildings in operation with a population of 3,000 people. With new highways being built throughout King County during World War I (1918-1921), traffic congestion caused many businesses to close or move out; however, others slowly revived thanks toeers like Jens Jensen and Wm Hjelmstad who renovated some old buildings into residences (Hjelmstad House). This revitalization led to increased development around Second Avenue which crossed First Avenue west-to-east forming what is now Pioneer Square (named for Scottish explorer David Thompson). In 1925 Newcastle incorporated as a city under state law; at that time its population was just over 1,000 people living in small homes around Second Avenue between Union Street and Capitol Hill Drive NW). City leaders determined that new arrivals needed more space so they built two blocks east of Union Street on land donated by banker George Caird (Caird House still stands today). South side streets were widened then rerouted perpendicular to Third Avenues providing ample space for housing developments next door without impedeing traffic flow oroccupancy rates on First Avenues which continued unchanged until 1978 when heavy development along Interstate 5 finally created serious overcrowding issues which required extensive redevelopment later dubbed “The Reclamation Project” by local newspapers at the time due chiefly Toeppen’s efforts with funding from philanthropist Adolphus Busch II because he saw blighted sections near his Lakeview estate) . On July 15th 1945 local high school seniors gathered near Caird house for their final assembly before leaving for college/university applications across North America starting summer session (). After dinner speeches by Mayor Richardson Dowling (later Assistant Chief U S Marshal) students organized into unit parallelograms facing south on Third Ave NE creating an impromptu parade route down Second Ave bustled with activity as parents brought children up onto sidewalks bordering Third Ave opposite High School () soon followed by mothers bringing young children back up onto sidewalks againCatholics formed processions holding candles while Protestants walked behind carrying banners reading "No More than Eight"

Newcastle is the county seat of King County and home to the largest collection of Native American artifacts in western Washington. The city has a rich history dating back to 1851 when it was founded as an agricultural community by Scots-Irish immigrants from Ulster. The first permanent settlers arrived around 1851 and named their new community Newcastle after their home town of Newcastle on Tyne in England. The name "Newcastle" stuck and the community grew quickly until it had a population of over 100 people by 1875. In 1911, Newcastle became part of Washougal Township which also included present day Auburn and Wenatchee. In 1923, the City Council enacted Ordinance No. 9684 authorizing the placement of public works within five blocks of each other for convenience purposes only – this eventually led to what is now called "the downtown loop." Development continued rapidly throughout the 1920s with additions such as a movie theater (1928), fire department (1929), library (1930) and post office (1931). By 1938, there were over 100 businesses located in what is now known as "the downtown area." In 1941, during World War II, Newcastle Air Force Base was established here adjacent to what is now known as Northgate Park. This made Newcastle one of three military installations in King County – along with Tacoma and Bellingham – that contributed significantly to war production during the war years. On January 1, 1951, following passage of Statehood Act 251st Session Laws by both houses of State Legislature New Castle became a city under Seattle Municipal Code section 5-301 et seq., residents voting on November 7th 1950 approving annexation by Seattle becoming fully vested with city rights pursuant thereto including all powers granted hereinabove except power to make ordinances not inconsistent with state law or any ordinance passed or authorized by said state statute…. On July 1st 1957 Mayor Hargrave effective date provided for change back to village form effective September 1st due largely to development growth outside limits Village boundaries no longer meeting zoning requirements; however police services are maintained through contract with Seattle Police Department

In 1886, Newcastle granted city rights to itself, making it the first municipality in Washington state. over time, Newcastle's economy grew increasingly based on its status as an agricultural center and its location close to both Seattle and Tacoma.
