In 1907, a company called Stevens & Co. started making rifle cartridges here specifically for shotguns. These days, rifle cartridges are most often used for target shooting or deer hunting. In 1916, Newcastle became the second city in Washington state to pass a gun control law. This law was designed to prevent criminals from getting hold of firearms and using them to commit crimes. It also allowed people with permits to buy handguns without having any previous experience with guns. Today, Newcastle is home to one of the largest gun barrel factories in North America – J&R Firearms Incorporated! Newcastle is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 910 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Issaquah– Kenton Micropolitan Statistical Area. Newcastle is located on the eastern edge of Snohomish County and is bordered by Renton to the south, Bellevue to the east, Seattle to the north, and North Bend to the west. The first European settler in what became Newcastle was George Vancouver in 1792. He named his new settlement after his home country of England. A mission was established here in 1813 and soon afterwards a Presbyterian church was built in what is now downtown Newcastle. The Webster School opened in 1819 and eventually became enrollment-driven Townsend Elementary School before being merged with Gonzaga High School for girls in 1984. The school district closed it as an elementary school but kept it open as a secondary school until 2003 when it became Townsend Middle/High School again under single-sex education jurisdiction laws passed by Washington state legislators during that session. In 2010, Townsend Middle/High School united with nearby White River High School (now White River Academy) to form McNary Campus which offers comprehensive academic programs leading up to high school graduation from both schools

The first residents of Newcastle were white people from New England who had come to trade goods with the Native Americans in this region. In time, other settlers arrived including African Americans and Mexicans who worked on the farms around Newcastle. By 1880, there were over 100 people living in Newcastle. During its early years, Newcastle was a center of trade between British Columbia and Washington state because of its location at the confluence of several rivers which made it an ideal spot for travelers to meet traders and buy goods. This connection helped give birth to what is now known as Route 99A (the Yakima Highway). also main artery through Pierce County today
Newcastle was founded in 1792 by Loyalist refugees from the British Isles. The town was named for Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, which at that time constituted the largest city in Scotland. The first permanent settlers arrived in 1794 and soon had a general store and post office. In 1801, Newcastle became the county seat of Benton County. It remained so until 1959 when King County replaced Benton County with King's County.
