Newcastle is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern border of the county and is bordered by Seattle to the north and east, Bellevue to the south, and Mercer Island to the west. Newcastle has a humid continental climate with hot summers and mild winters. The first European settlers in what is now Newcastle were French Canadians who founded Fort George in 1792. The town's name comes from New Englander John Nicholson's observation that "one could not tell whether it was a settlement or an island" when he first saw it in 1801. In 1814, British forces burned down part of Fort George while retreating from Alaskan campaign against Sir James Douglas. In 1870, Newcastle became part of King County after being divided off from Snohomish County. As of 2010, there are 1,826 people living in Newcastle-upon-Tyne Borough (the incorporated municipality). Of these people <1% are Native American or Alaska Native; however, this number may change as development continues within the boundaries of Newcastle-upon- Tyne Borough since incorporation took place on April 14th 2008 Newcastle began as just one house on Main Street during its early years as a settlement. By 1890 it had grown into what is today an independent city with over 100 businesses and 2 schools: one public high school (grades 9 through 12) and one private high school for pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade (grades 9 through 12). By 2000 only about 50%of residents spoke English at home; however Portuguese spoken residents continue to make up about 10% of all residents There have been many big changesover time at Newcastle including annexation by Bellevue in 1907 and then again by Seattle in 1912; both moves made possible because Durhams Creek ran through central Newcastle between those two municipalities making annexation much easier than trying to get around that jurisdictional issue According to history buffs online forum HistoryLink: "On April 14th 2008 [new] Newcastle upon Tyne Borough was created when parts of Bellevue Municipality were annexed by new boundaries set out by local government reform legislation passed under Sound Transit 3 – giving more control over governance within urban areas". This move increased employment opportunities for everyone involved as well as decreasing commute times for many workers living within Bellevue Municipality which surrounds central Newcastle . The Lower Mainland Airport project will also bring new jobs into central Newcastle ! Newcastle is a small town in the state of Washington. The population was 2,617 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for King County and part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Newcastle is home to two universities, Seattle Pacific University and Western Washington University. The first settler in Newcastle was Capt. John Wesley who arrived in 1847. In 1860, Jno Crain opened a livery stable in Newcastle and soon began trading goods with farmers along the Puget Sound region. The first school in Newcastle was built in 1882 by Mrs. Auld and taught until 1907 when it closed due to lack of students or money to maintain it. In 1907, coal mining began operations in Newcastle and led to rapid growth; more than 1,000 people were employed at mines by 1910. Mining ended during World War I but left a lasting legacy as many miners lost their jobs which forced many families out of town and into poverty. In 1916, local men organized a militia to help protectowned businesses from anarchists on Klondike Road west of town center while traveling through King County looking for silver prospectors working on an unpatented project called “Sparrow” A year later, Captain Leland Doherty organized a group of men from Newcastle to help clear brush surrounding Gold Rush sites near his farmstead on160 acres north of town center This pioneer land grant program continued until 1909 when most of what remains today within city limits was acquired by developers from Seattle following annexation by that city some years earlier In 1928, newlywed Mrs.(Linda) Payne purchased 640 acres east of downtown from her husband’s family for $10 per acre This purchase included future city limits including present day northeast corner lot finally annexed by Newcastle as part of that city’s mergers with other municipalities some years later After several decades during which little change occurred outsideOf downtown core caused largely due To high demand For housing throughout much Of Town Center new Development began early last Century characterized By large Number Of detached Home builders Namely:Robertson Homes Lennar & Co
