In 1912, the three villages were again combined into one municipality and the name of the new municipality was changed to Mukilteo. The population of Mukilteo grew steadily from its original 12,000 residents until it reached its peak in 1972 when it had 18,000 residents. Since then, it has gradually declined as more people moved away or died due to various reasons.
