For all ages cohort age distribution rates are: 15–24 years 5%; 25–34 years 11%; 35–44 years 14%; 45+ years 5%. As stated earlier poverty rates decreased with increasing experience however these rates still remain high at 17%. Mukilteo is a small town in central Washington, United States. The population was 2,591 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Yakima County seat and the Mukilteo Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Mukilteo" means "place where there are many salmon." The first Europeans to visit the area were fur traders who hunted and traded with Native Americans in what is now Yakima County. In 1851, John Wesley Powell explored and mapped much of central Washington when he led an expedition from Stawell, British Columbia to explore the Snake River Valley. He named one of his rivers, the Snake River after his guide, Salmon Run. In 1872, a group of miners discovered gold near current day Mukilteo while working in nearby Kingman Mines. This started a period of heavy gold mining activity in central Washington which continue until 1942 when all but 3 percent of all gold mined in America was produced here at the height of the American Gold Rush. The railroad arrived in Mukilteo in 1886 and soon contributed to economic growth within miles radius as people transported goods to market or stored their crops during bad weather conditions across open country. Over time more businesses have developed such as restaurants and stores; churches; mills; schools; medical clinics; factories and more recently homebuilders including two-story homes that sell for up to $200,000 today! It wasn't until after World War II that most residents shifted away from farming or ranching into fulltime manufacturing jobs outside town due to improved transportation options brought about by Interstate 5 (now US-101) which connected Mukilteo with Seattle & Tacoma Proving Grounds (west side only), Everett & North Bend (east side) and Portland Oregon via Highway 99W (& later I-5). Today's economy largely revolves around service industry such as construction, tourism/recreational activities (especially skiing), local 7x7 truck stop called 'The Depot' on Main Street which has been host to numerous events including music festivals over the years as well as popular sporting events like auto races etc., making it one of largest commercial districts anywhere close!
