Multi-tool history in Mukilteo, Washington started with a pocket knife. In 1892, John H. Park and his brother began trade at the docks to support their family. They were the first shopkeepers in town and soon had a large selection of tools available. In 1912, they opened their own store and continued to sell tools until 1977 when they closed down due to ownership changes. The Park brothers are credited with helping popularize the tool as a staple of everyday life in Mukilteo. In 1902, Mechanic Wm. Sutter started trading at the depot on Broadway which is now known as Sutter's Mill Road. He was among the first merchants to offer tools for sale and he also became one of the earliest dealers in handtools and power tools including an early version of a chainsaw! His customers included farmers, fishermen, miners and lumberjacks. By 1915, Sutter's was selling over 1,000 different items! In 1916-1917 Wm. Loescher ran a small workshop near Main Street that specialized in repairing bicycles! He was followed by other local businesses that sold bicycle parts from 1916 until 1967 when all bike repair business were consolidated into one store called “Bicycle Warehouse” on First Avenue NE (now Aberdeen Place). This business operated until about 1978 when it closed due to ownership changes! From 1904-1978 there were three stores located downtown in what is now known as Pioneer Square; these stores carried everything from farm implements to automobiles! During World War II most of Oregon's Tool Supply Co (OTSC) moved production from Portland to Tacoma because Tacoma had more storage capacity thanPortland for war supplies!" The first products exported out of Tacoma were military hardware such as radios and machine guns produced by OTSC engineers during World War II

In 1840, following gold discoveries at Mount Rainier, Mukilteo became one of the principal ports for mining operations in King County. The first post office was established in 1845. By 1865, Mukilteo had become an important commercial center serving both Pierce and Snohomish counties. In 1890, when Puget Sound Bridge opened to vehicular traffic between Seattle and Olympia (then called Tacoma), Mukilteo saw its first motor vehicle traffic; cars started coming into town from Covington and Bothell districts to buy goods available only at those two larger cities. Today's commercial district began to take shape around this time with several businesses opening up along First Avenue NE: lumberyards, appliance stores/retailers, shoe stores/barns etcetera. By 1975 there were sixteen businesses operating within one block of First Ave., which included four banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., American Express Company-Northwest Bank Branch #1-Seattle branch), three restaurants (Taco Bells-Ivar’s Japanese Cuisine Unit #1 & 2), three auto parts dealerships (/Kurt Wagner Imports Incorporated-Eddie Bauer Car Parts #4 & 5), two convenience stores (/Cascade Trading Post - Everett location) as well as several small business owners who ran their own homes or rented out space inside large buildings like churches or hotels. In 1990 also came the advent of what would be known as "the dot com boom" which did much to change how people lived and worked within Mukilteo; suddenly there was more opportunity for entrepreneurs to start their own businesses than ever before thanks to new technology such as internet access and email marketing that allowed many small businesses access to a global audience through ecommerce platforms like Amazon Web Services or Yahoo! Mukilteo quickly became a major transportation and industrial center for the area and soon developed into a thriving town with a population of over 100,000 people. The town Muckleshoote was established nearby in 1853 by John Prentice and his wife Mary Keyes. Mukilteo gained its current name in 1865 when postmaster James Harkness renamed it for his mother, Margaret Harkness. In 1907, Congress passed a law making Mukilteo an incorporated municipality sharing equal rights with Seattle with responsibility for government services including streets and public utilities. Mukilteo has experienced growth since becoming an incorporated community; from 1,611 people in 1980 to 9,521 as of 2010. According to the 2010 US Census there are also several agricultural businesses that have sprung up around town such as: a grocery store (Aloha), a health food store ( Health Matters ), a nursery/farms ( fields & Flowers ), two banks ( First Union and RegionsBank ), three restaurants - One full service restaurant which opened as "The Golden Gizzard", another full service restaurant which changed its name to "Eagle's Nest" after being purchased by local entrepreneur Dan Keenan and two other restaurants - one Japanese-owned steakhouse called Yakitori Noodle House all these operations generate over $500K annually in economic activity for the community overall.
