The first European to sight Mukilteo was Captain James Cook on his HMS " Endymion" on October 12, 1792 while sailing westward through the Strait of Juan de Fuca. He named it Xhekketenahkt (the Place where there are no trees) after one of his men who had seen a large tree on the beach but could not find any other explanation for its presence there. In 1851, Senator William McKinley and Congressman George Stephenson founded what became known as the Mount Vernon Company and landed an ox team at Fort Lawton to transport supplies upriver to Mukilteo. The company built mills around Mukilteo until 1865 when they sold all their land except some in the center of town to create Queen Anne's Park which still includes most or all of downtown Mukilteo today and forms part of Seattle's neighborhoodsitesite boundaries today. During World War II, USS " Tacoma" docked at Mukilteo Naval Shipyard for repairs before she sailed back out into Puget Sound for combat service; many ships were repaired here including USS " Tacoma ". After her return from battleservice she served as a training ship at Bremerton until 1945 when she decommissioned and entered service as USS Anchorage . She served in various ports throughout Asia before being retired in 1987 and placed into reserve status at Puget Sound Naval District headquarters until 1992 when she was reactivated as USS " Mukilo" (LHD-7) and has been operating out of Everett since then. She is currently berthed at Drydock 1 located adjacent to Discovery Museum across from Safeco Field with plans underway to move her permanently ashore once again during 2019/2020 season; this will be only the second time that a warship has been permanently moored at Safeco Field since it opened in 1999! In celebration of her new home permanent berth!

Wickersham founded the town on what would become his farmstead called "Hillsborough". In 1916, during World War I, Mukilteo supported U.S. forces with supplies and personnel until they were evacuated when戦争 began nationally. After the war ended, many of the veterans returned home and new businesses were founded such as Kartsch Motors Manufacturing Company (now part of General Electric) and Boeing Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation (now Lockheed Martin). In 1957, Mukilteo voters passed an ordinance authorizing annexation byKing County; this event helped make it one of the fastest growing cities in King County at that time. The city grew rapidly due to heavy investment from business owners including Boeing and Microsoft among others in downtown areas such as First Hill Park and Pioneer Square along with new housing developments centered around Interstate 5/State Route 99E which hugs the waterfront area just south of downtown Mallard Bay before splitting off into blocks further inland near Cheney Lake Park & Beach Club Drive before reaching State Route 97 just outside University Place mall today
