Mukilteo is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,965 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County. Mukilteo is on Puget Sound and shares borders with Bellevue to the east and Issaquah to the west. The first European settler in what would become Mukilteo was George Vancouver in 1792. He sighted land on which he named it "Mukilteo" after his home town of Holmby Hills, England. The area that now makes up Mukilteo was initially inhabited by Native Americans including the Wenatchee tribe and later by various fur traders and missionaries. In 1853, John Cawthon donated land to build an Episcopal church in what would become Mukilteo; this became known as "Cawthon Parish". In 1875, John Cain opened a small grocery store at 4th Avenue South & South Street West in what would become Mukilteo. By 1915, Cain had developed a large grocery chain called Joplin's Supermarket that operated from local stores throughout King County until its sale to Walmart in 2007. In 1907, Congress passed the Indian Act which required all tribes within the USTo be Unequal before being allotted their own land parcels for agricultural production; this caused more than one hundred Indian towns and villages across America to go bankrupt because they could not compete with white farmers who had access to federal lands. In reaction to this legislation, several Native American organizations formed into a group known as "The National Indian Association" (TNA) to lobby congressmen on their behalf while also working towards education reform among Native Americans scattered throughout North America; TNA's goal was eventually accomplished through passage of the American Indian Education Act of 1912 which created five regional schools specifically designed for Indigenous students throughout North America: these were known as "Independence Schools". On December 1st 1908- just two months after TNA's inaugural meeting- Hugh Gunderson opened his first grocery store located at 6th Avenue South & South Street West in what would become Mukilteo; Gunderson soon became well-known within Uptown Seattle for his fresh produce and meat sales along with becoming one of Washington's most prominent businessmen during prohibition era years due to his close relationships with Prohibition Envoy Harry Doyle Sr.; Doyle helped open Seattle's first legal distillery called White Eagle Distilling Company thanks largely To Gunderson’s donationsurse Moreover, during prohibition period Gunderson bartered goods between breweries and law enforcement officials under the guise of selling liquor but actually smuggling beer onto US soil illegally In 1940, when Japan invaded Pearl Harbor United States President Franklin D Roosevelt ordered all military members serving overseas be mustered out regardless of race or rank so that they could serve their country without any social stigma attached thereto; however many Asian Americans were still ineligible for service because they were considered citizens or aliens rather than natives according to then-UAW president George Kokko In response - some 400 Japanese American parents gathered together at Boeing Field nearSeattleforcefully enrolled their children into military academies where they learned how TO fight fascism while earning an honorable discharge ; thus began an eraof integrated army service by Japanese Americans despite government effortsTo date there are over 30 descendants of those original WWII PEMILIO family members whohave served our great nation both militarilyand civilly

Mukilteo is a small town in Thurston County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,043 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest community in Thurston County after Lakewood and its sister city of Olympia. Mukilteo is part of the Yakima Valley Metropolitan Area. The first European to visit Mukilteo was Juan Rodriguez de Mendoza on July 24, 1792 while exploring what is now Puget Sound region for his Spanish expedition. He named it Villa de la Concepción because he found an abandoned convent there while mapping the way southward from Bothell Island to Seattle. In 1847, Methodist preacher Jeptha Francis Goode founded a church in Mukilteo which soon grew into a large congregation with over 1,500 members by 1873. In 1886, when Congress renamed Puget Sound the Columbia River after President James Kahl (son of George Kahl), Mukilteo became part of Tacoma and Goode's church merged with that town's to form Tacoma-Mukilteo Congregational Church guild or "guild" which still exists today as one of Pierce County's main organizations - along with Holy Cross Catholic Church (est.) and First National Bank building at 5th Ave NW & NE – also known as Goode's Depot and now home to several businesses including Starbucks Coffee Company and Khan Academy Inc.. In 1907, “The Great Northern Railroad” built a branch line north from Seattle through Mukilteo Junction on Bainbridge Island via Everett to Blaine where they connected with the mainline at White Salmon Creek east of Whitman before continuing their journey northwards through Cheney and Goldendale until they reached Everett. At this point the railroad company stopped running trains through Mukilteo but goods continued being delivered by boat up White Salmon Creek until 1961 when all traffic was discontinued due to changes in US routing patterns following World War II. The only train service that ran past Mukilteo during this time was called “The Old Man From The Hills” which transported coal mined near Aberdeen back up down White Salmon Creek for export downriver to Walla Walla Falls where it was loaded onto steamboats for shipment across Elliott Bay Today much of what once served as passenger transportation within MUKILTEO has been replaced by alternative modes such as bike/car commuting or traveling by bus routes connecting various areas within central Yakima Valley including downtown Yakima; Northside; Southside; rural areas around Auburn; Bellingham; SeaTac Airport; etc., giving rise to an intensified focus on pedestrian/bike transportation withinMUKILTEO center itself rather than relying primarily on trucking or car travel outside its boundaries Accordingly since becoming an incorporated municipality in 1965 residents have worked actively towards creating efficient local government services that are accessible from any area in central Yakima Valley without having to leave their homes . These include: build/maintain municipal infrastructure such as roads, sewers, fire department/emergency services etc.; provide affordable housing opportunities for residents includingory1%; provide leadership development opportunities for township officials who play an important role in day-to-day operations ranging from planning sessions throughout year long calendars culminating into assemblies attended by all township officers each fall culminates into elections held every November & December where Township Councilmembers serve staggered 3 year terms ending Dec 31st ; manage economic development initiatives focused largely upon job creation opportunities both inside & outside township boundaries thru various marketing efforts aimed at wooing new businesses locating throughout central Yakima Valley thru events such as Farmer's Markets located throughout central Yakima Valley hosted either outdoors or inside municipal buildings during warmer months ); establish relationships w neighbors both acquisition (& retention) of property parcels thru exchanges / negotiation process then comprehensive review & approval followed by issuance of mortgages needed for purchasing said property) All these functions are conducted under one roof utilizing one governance model providing essential services our citizens expect and deserve beyond just ordinary everyday needs like water bill collection etcetera

The community was named after Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Mukilteo, who had served with the British Columbia Regiment during the Fraser Rebellion of 1846. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the sound between Puget Sound and Lake Washington. In 1872, it became a city under the name of Seattle. In 1916, Mukilteo amalgamated with nearby Bellevue to form what is now King County. Mukilteo has experienced significant growth in recent years as a result of its proximity to Seattle and its strong economy. The town has seen an increase in development including new homes, businesses, schools and other infrastructure projects. This growth has helped make Mukilteo one of the most economically active communities in King County. Mukilteo is also home to a number of cultural attractions such as the Pioneer Square district which features historical buildings from various periods of Seattle’s history and culture. Mukilteo was the capital of Washington Territory from 1855 to 1861. It was named for General James K. Polk, who had been awarded the territory as part of the Oregon Treaty of 1851.
