Mukilteo is a small town in King County, Washington. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the Puget Sound region and is bordered by White Rock to the north, Seattle to the east, North Bend to the south, and Everett to the west. Mukilteo is one of two towns in King County with a post office that continues to serve as an important communication center for rural residents and businesses throughout much of central Puget Sound. As an agricultural community, Mukilteo has been home to agriculture since before there were any villages or towns in King County. The town's namesake comes from Chief Seattle's statement "There are those who would build homes here; I will not." The current name was given on October 3, 1907 after a referendum passed by residents in which 99% of ballots were in favor of changing it from "Mukilteo" to "Mukilteo". At its founding, Mukilteo had a population of only 10 people. By 1912 it had grown so large that it decided to move its legal government from Mt Vernon (then part of Tacoma) into town so that all actions could be taken through one main building complex. This gave rise to some confusion about how things worked when new residents first arrived - did they move their old government offices into town? No! They moved their post office into town - now known as the annex building on First Avenue SW ( adjacent to NEIL HUGHES High School). The original school buildings still stand today along First Avenue SW - they have been used as apartments since 1994 when Westview Elementary closed down and most students were transferred out to nearby South Hill Elementary (now CenturyLink Field Elementary School). In 1902-1903 there was also a flour mill in Mukilteo - this ceased production around 1915 because of competition from other mills in King County. Today there are no active mills in Mukilteo but many local farms still use corn meal and other products produced at that time including appleseed oil which goes back over 100 years! As an agricultural community, Mukilteo has always been very dependent on trade with adjoining counties for goods both big and small. For example, during World War II local farmers exported potatoes and other crops directly to Boeing Airplane plants across Elliott Bay while other families grew hay or produced fruit trees for export downriver at Fairchild Airport just outsideSeattle hidden beneath heavy forest canopy! Today we continue this tradition with our own bilateral trade relationships with Canada and Russia; we sell fresh produce direct from our farm fields plus dried goods such as herbs and spices! Today many people come visit Mukilteo because it has excellent schools - every child attending one school within walking distance attends classes together rather than split among different elementary schools like most rural communities do today! Additionally, much technology exists within easy reach for everyone including internet access through public libraries or even church socials where laptops are common!!! Additionally: There are three churches within 2 miles of each other serving different denominations...plus several restaurants/cafes close by if you happen upon needs caffeine fixings during your stay!!!!! Truly an amazing place!!!!!!!!

Mukilteo was a town in King County, Washington, located on the shores of Lake Washington. The population was 6,846 at the 2000 census. Mukilteo is now a ghost town and its only remaining building is the Mukilteo School House which is open to the public. The Mukilteo Post Office closed in 1990. According to local legend, when the post office closed, mail stoped right outside the door of the schoolhouse and never reached its destination. Mukilteo was founded by Russians in 1851 as part of an effort to resettle Puget Sound area settlers from what they saw as hostile Native American cultures. In 1855, John Ewing established a mill ongeist at present-day Mukilteo Creek after purchasing land from Chief Seattle for $1 million dollars. By 1870, there were four mills in operation in Mukilteo: one by Ewing (1870), another by J.H. Cummins (1874), another by Wm Hurd (1879), and still another by Denny & Co.(1901). In 1892, K&W Timber Company began operations with a sawmill on Main Street; it continued until 1959 when it became part of Pacific Northwest Paper Products Incorporated. In 1916-17, three men--John Cavanaugh (a logger and lumber salesman who had come to work for K&W), Harry Niedermeyer (an engineer) and Theodore Olson (founder of Seattle's first radio station)--organized an unsuccessful campaign to gain control of the King County seat from incumbent James Purdy via primary election ballots mailed out over Christmas break 1918-19; instead they selected Everett Hjelmquist as their candidate instead In 1924-25 two brothers--Donald Winthrop Freywald and George Freywald--formed Kubernetes Logging Company Limited Partnership with mills at Anacortes, WA; Milt Bearden joined them soon afterwards After Donald Freywald's death in 1958 his brother George took over his interests In 1961 both brothers merged into Donelson Brothers Logging CompanyLimited Partnership which became Donelson Brothers Logding Corporation One Hundred Percentowned subsidiary Of Pacific Northwest Paper Products Incorporated assets are still being produced today We have been producing logs here since 1961
Mukilteo was founded in 1851 by Captain James Cook as the BayTac trading post. In 1855, Mukilteo became the county seat of King County and was renamed after John Muir. The town's growth continued until the early 20th century when it slowly dwindled due to changing demographics and a lack of industry. In 1916, Mukilteo was annexed by Seattle and its population grew rapidly with new subdivisions being built in what is now Pioneer Square. With the arrival of Interstate 5 in I-5 corridor in 1965, Mukilteo lost much of its population and development stopped abruptly. However, it has seen resurgence thanks to revitalization efforts including a new shopping district called First Hill which opened up in 2006.
