When America declared its independence from Great Britain in 1776, the burgeoning country needed an arsenal to protect itself. The first steps were made to arm the people of Boston and other cities with cannon and muskets. But it was not until 1802 that the hangman’s noose was included in America’s arsenal as a means of handguns. With pistols becoming more common, Americans developed a need for ammunition as well. The British navy had been raiding American shippingyards since 1775, and by 1800 they had become so proficient at firing broadside guns that they had taken over much of North America. To defend against this onslaught, the US government commissioned Congress to create a system to provide “safe harbor” for their vessels while they unloaded goods on American soil. This system would allow British vessels safe passage but also ensure that any munitions or supplies brought ashore were off limits to the enemies of freedom. The Safe Harbor System was successful in keeping out British warships but it created problems for American manufacturers who wanted to produce ammunition for their warships. In 1806, Congress passed an act authorizing the Secretary of War to establish a monopoly on powder production in order to prevent importation of British powder into the United States without prior approval from Congress. This act allowed producers such as Winchester and Smith & Wesson to develop new products such as .50 caliber revolvers which became known as “ Union arms” because they were used by both sides during the Civil War (1861-1865). Ammunition production continued apace through World War II until 1945 when Japan entered into World War II without surrendering all of her colonies including Mukilteo (then part of Washington State). As Japan began launching military campaigns throughout Asia she began stockpiling ammo which she then exported back home. By 1945 Japan had amassed an estimated 10 million rounds of ammunition while US forces possessed just 2 million rounds of firearms overall!

In 1876, coal fields were discovered near Mukilteo so the town began to boom as businesses sprang up to exploit them. In 1888, local artist Julius Eastman sketched out plans for what would become Pioneer Square which would include an opera house and public square in downtown Mukilteo. After years of planning and fundraising spearheaded by Mayor Harry Humes, construction began on Pioneer Square in 1893 and opened its doors to the public two years later. The decline of mining during the late nineteenth century led to Decline & Fall Streetcars running through downtown Mukilteo until 1969; however this streetcar line left behind many interesting historical artifacts including a locomotive built by German manufacturer Friedrich Krupp which ran out of fuel at Pioneer Square on December 26th 1906; one hundredweight lead weights used by smelters during ore processing dating back to 1916; five casts ironclad warships commissioned as part of Naval Squadron No 2 at Kitsap Landing before their decommissioning in 1922; old stone sidewalks still visible today along both sides of Main Street between Third Avenue South and First Avenue North where steamboats used to berth before being replaced by cars in 1902-1904; original telephone poles still standing today along 4th Avenue North from Townsend Street South all the way down until eastbound traffic crosses First Avenue North just past Pacific Ave., revealing an early example of roadside infrastructure typical across much older land areas such as this one’s pioneers did not even think about! The decline & fall of aluminum production also impacted business around here though there has been recent growth seen with Chinook Winds Nursery opening up shop just north off 4th Ave., followed by software development company called Echo Park Pty Ltd., furniture store anchor Knoppers disposed stable property adjacent stretching back into Townsend St./Pacific Ave./First Ave./4th Ave.; & finally big box stores like Costco coming online but leavingovers like Chinook Winds continue right next door despite having no access or ability to service these properties currently! One thing that has not changed much throughout these decades though is how people have interacted within & outside their homes - whether it’s locals playing handball or borrowing lawnmowers from neighbors or simply spending time outside engaging with nature! Despite some challenges faced recently such as high school enrollment dropping 50% since 2000 due largely to lack thereof opportunities available within our community – overall things are looking bright for residents here!
