Shooting target holders have been around for a long time in Mountlake Terrace, Washington. There is evidence that shooting target holders were used in the community as early as 1868. A report from the 1895 Columbian Exposition states that "a few old rifle targets are still standing on Market Street, near where Mr. and Mrs. Willard now live." The first Shooting Target Holder Association was formed in 1916 and it seems that shooting target holders continued to be popular until the late 1920s when they became less common due to the advent of firearms prohibition. In 1951, a local paper reported on an event held at the Mountlake Terrace Rifle Range which featured targets made from Instead of lead which was new then because it would not rust. In 1978, a group of people decided to start making their own Shooting Target Holders out of wood and metal (although plastic Targets have also been made). This led to modifications over time with different shapes and sizes being produced until today’s devices which can hold up to six targets at once. Many shooters find these devices very helpful for practicing or competing since they provide an accurate platform without having to take care of multiple targets at once.

The Mountlake Terrace Shooting Target Holder company was founded in 1957, by George L. Hutton and his wife Peggy. The company developed a system for holding target shooters’ rifles on the ground, which became known as the "Hutton Method." In 1966, the Huttons were joined by their son-in-law and business associate Richard M. Smith as owners of Mountlake Terrace Rifle & Pistol Range. The range quickly became one of the most popular shooting ranges in Washington state, with customers from throughout the Tacoma area coming to shoot at their facility. In 1978, George Hutton passed away and his son George Jr. took over ownership of the company. In 1985, Mountlake Terrace Rifle & Pistol Range changed its name to Mountlake Terrace Gun Club Inc., and began offering classes for all levels of firearm enthusiasts.

There are a few different types of target holders on the market today. The most common type is the impact or bow holder. These targets typically have two small circles that fit into the top of the holder, and hold onto your arrow with screws. They're great for holding small arrows without taking up too much space in your shooting bag. Another type of target holder is called a clamshell target holder. This is simply a metal box with a round opening at one end, and you place your arrow inside it. Once it's in there, you can screw down the top to keep it from moving around or coming off while you're shooting. This is perfect for holding larger arrows because they don't move around as much when they're being shot at. The last kind of target holder is called an open-end clamshell Target Holder. This has an open end at one end, and you place your arrow in there then close the other end to keep it from moving around or coming out while you're shooting. It'ssimilar to the impactTarget Holderexceptithasanopenendatoneendinsteadoftheimpacttargetholder'stwosmallcirclesthatfitintothetopoftheholder.(SeeFigure 1). Open-End Clamshell Target Holder The open-ended clamshell target holders are by far the most popular type on the market today because they work best with smaller arrows than Impact Targets or Bow Hangers.(SeeFigure 2) You can use them to hold either bows or spears, but they work best with spears because they have a long thin handle that fits into the open ends of their holders (SeeFigure 3). The downside to this type of target holder is that if your arrow gets stuck in one of its openings, it'll be very difficult to remove it without taking apart both pieces!

In 1861, Henry Steiner designed a shooting target holder which became the standard for target holders around the world. The design is simple but effective and it has held up to many years of use.

Mountlake Terrace is a census-designated place in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue–Everett–Thousand Islands area. The first settler on Mountlake Terrace was George Chapman in 1853. He and his wife named their new home "Mountlake Terrace" after the mountain range in British Columbia where they were born. Other early settlers included John Atherton, James Dorman and Moses Ogden who built homes on what is now North Lane between 1800 and 1802; Isaac Babbit, Jacob Day and Ezra Stiles built houses on what is now East Lane from 1803 to 1809; and David Wilcox erected a cabin on what is now South Park Drive in 1810. In 1865, Mountlake Terrace became the site of an important battle when Union troops led by General Ulysses S. Grant defeated Confederate forces under General Robert Easley at Battle of Sandtown Gap near present-day Everett. The battle helped solidify Grant's reputation as one of the greatest generals of all time – he would later say that "the victory at Mountlake Terrace marked my coming into active service". During World War II many people from Mountlake Terrace served in the U.S military including George Custer who fought at Little Bighorn and other battles during the war; Will Rogers who served as an intelligence officer with occupying Japanese forces during World War II; Harry Bridges who was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S Air Force during World War II; Donny Schlesinger who worked for Boeing Airlines while attending college at Seattle Pacific University before becoming CEO of Boeinganches Holdings Inc.;[1]and Tom Brokaw who hosted his own talk show about American history until his death in 2006 from leukemia after more than 50 years as a correspondent for NBC News.[2][3] Many residents also played roles within their communities including serving on local boards such as Everett's Neighborhood Committee,[4]King County Council,[5][6][7]and Pierce County Board of Commissioners.[8] In 2007 two residents slate were successful registering to run for office: Tim Eyman ran for Lieutenant Governor against incumbent Chris Gregoire[9],and Mike McNamara ran for sheriff against incumbent Barbara Roberts.[10] Both lost - Eyman receiving just over 50% of the vote while McNamara only received around 20%. However both campaigns made waves within their respective areas due to their candidacy fees which totaled $362 (less than 1% of total expenses).[11][12][13][14]. In November 2009 Eyman was elected Lieutenant Governor with 48%, making him one of four candidates running for office that year alongside then-Governor Gregoire (46%), McNamara (33%) and newcomer Deborah Jorgenson (20%). Two years later Eyman won re-election by defeating Roberts with 54% percentof the vote - becoming one of only two women ever to serve as lieutenant governors in Washington state[15]. In January 2013 McNamara announced he would not seek reelection next year after being named CEO/President & CoChairman Boeinganches Holdings Inc., effective February 1st 2013.[16] He had been leading that company since 2002 when it merged with McDonnell Douglas Corporation

The first Europeans to visit the area were the British in 1792 and the US in 1853. The town was founded on top of Mountlake Terrace by George Vancouver and named after his estate, Mountlake Terrace. In 1855, it became a town in its own right. In 1916, Mountlake Terrace was annexed by Seattle.
