Mountlake Terrace, Washington is a small town in King County, Washington. It is located on the banks of the Issaquah River and lies within the Mount Baker–Snoqualmie National Forest. The first rifle scopes were developed in Mountlake Terrace by several local men during the 1800s. Today, rifle scopes are still used to target shoot and to see over cover when hunting. The Mountlake Terrace Rifle Scopic Company was founded in 18th century by nine men from Mountlake Terrace. The company developed several types of rifle scope including first use of telescopic riflescope in 1824. By 1840, all of the men who had founded this company had died or left for other businesses. However, many items from this company remain extant such as a telescopic rifle scope that was exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. In 1907, Reverend Wm Leland Hargrave donated his home and land on which Mountlake Terrace Rifle Scopic Company now stands to become an NRA center for research and education on firearms and optics history. In 1919, Congress recognized Mtlake Terrace as a national historical district under the jurisdiction of the Department of Interior with responsibility for protecting American history through conservation efforts In 1954-1955 Congressional hearings were held on America's gun control programs following President Franklin D Roosevelt's "New Deal" speech condemning "the alarming increase in violence among youth." One witness at these hearings was Dr . Edward Condon who testified about rifle Scope Technology then being used by troops in Korea War

Mountlake Terrace is a small town in Thurston County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,611 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The name means "mountain ridge" in reference to the Mount Rainier National Monument to the east and Mount Baker National Forest to the west. The first people to live here were Native Americans who hunted and fished on the river near present-day Mountlake Terrace. A post office was established in 1853, and by 1860 there were 10 residents. In 1872, a railroad came through this area and brought new settlers, including many women who started a store in what is now Pioneer Square. By 1900 there were over 100 people living here. In 1907 a school was built at 10th Avenue Northeast and Northwest 116th Street; it served grades K-8 until 1975 when it was replaced by Mountlake Terrace High School which opened its doors on September 26, 1978. The current high school building opened in 1984 adjacent to Parkview Elementary School on SE 156th Street NE The initial land for this campus was donated by Mrs. Ann Ladd from her estate which included 4 properties that would ultimately become Mountlake Terrace: 2 blocks NW of 12th Ave NE (the site of today's Community Center), 1 block SW of 8th Ave NE (now within Pioneer Square), 1 block ESE of 13th Ave NE (now within University Village), and 3 blocks NNE of Tacoma Mall - all lands currently zonedRD/residential with future possibilities for commercial developments or urban villages located on or around these parcels if desired). This gift put an end to years of debate about whether MtLakeTerrace should be its own township or whether it should share facilities with neighboring Lynden since they both had schools but no other cultural amenities or services available nearby like churches/cafés/etc., something that MtLakeTerrice has always been able to provide due to our unique geography & history

The following year, it became the site of the United States Military Academy at West Point, which opened its doors to students in 1857. Over time, Mountlake Terrace grew into a thriving community with many businesses and homes. In 1906, it was renamed Mountlake Terrace after Dr. George Washington Mount (the first U.S. president). The city also experienced some growth during World War II as Army soldiers stationed there recruited local residents for service in the war effort. After the war ended, Mountlake Terrace began to decline as more people moved into the city and fewer businesses survived along its waterfront. However, over time it has regained some of its former glory and today is one of Seattle’s most vibrant neighborhoods full of active citizens and cultural attractions alike.
