He named it Aftershock because nearby hills had recently beaten back an avalanche that had been threatening his house on Park Way NW. In 1916 he married Marguerite Whitehead and moved into his home; they would live there until their death in 1988. It wasn't until after World War II did Mountlake Terrace take off as a real estate destination due to advances in air travel and subdivision development throughout King County – including Interstate 519 which bisects the community directly from I-5 north to south. Today's residents include many retirees who have settled down around Lake Washington or Puget Sound beaches since those days when getting close to your dream job could be just a car ride away; families with kids boarding buses at pick-up points near CenturyLink Field; and young professionals living downtown or commuting to jobsites along Interstate 519 or Mercer Street SE

Mountlake Terrace is a census-designated place in Thurston County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The Mountlake Terrace dam and powerhouse were built in 1913 by the Puget Sound Power Company to provide power for the expanding town of Mountlake Terrace on Lake Washington. The town was originally located in what is now King County and grew up around the construction of the dam and powerhouse. In 1957, when Bellevue became an incorporated town, Mountlake Terrace became its own municipality with its own government and school district. Mountlake Terrace has a rich history that dates back to 1851 when it was founded as a small settlement near modern day Seattle by Methodist missionaries from Canada. The original name for Mountlake Terrace was "Swan Lake". The first post office opened in 1852 and the first store opened in 1854. By 1870, most of what is now Mountlake Terrice had been developed as a farming community with several lumber mills operating nearby including those operated by John Denny and George Stephenson Jr.. A smallpox pandemic killed many people in 1850-1851 which led to new development around mount lake terrice as businesses sprang up to prevent further contamination of the environment. In 1907, Puget Sound Power issued a call for bids for developing an electric generating station on Orcas Island adjacent to Issaquah Creek which would be capable of providing electricity to Tacoma via lower levels across Issaquah creek bed instead of higher levels along Puget Sound beachfront which then passed through Tacoma into southern King County before terminating at SeaTac Airport In response to this solicitation, GEORGE STEPHENSON & CO., INC submitted their design for an electric generating station on Orcas Island adjacent to Issaquah Creek which would be capable of providing electricity to Tacoma via lower levels across Issaquah creek bed instead of higher levels along Puget Sound beachfront which then passed through Tacoma into southern King County before terminating at SeaTac Airport known today as GEORGE STEPHENSON & Co.'s Mt Baker Electric Generating Station (now named Cascade Pacific) . This proposal was accepted by Puget Sound Power who assigned them work under contract while they awaited project funding from federal energy programs such as Public Service Commission Federal Electric program . Work on creating this plant began in early 1909 however due primarily to financial difficulties experienced by GEORGE STEPHENSON & CO., INC., construction stopped after only 2 months due largely to lack of money available from both federal and private sources . Upon completion OF THE PUGET SOUND POWER COMPANY'S Mt Baker Electric Generating Station (now called Cascade Pacific) , it became one of America's largest hydroelectric plants with a primary output capacityof 1250 MWatts ! Today Mt Baker Electric Generating Station continues serve our customers regional grid providing power throughout much central WA Today there are few remnants remaining from past communities located within or surrounding Mountlake Terrice including: Swan Lake Baptist Church – original location where services were Provided until 1955; Post Office – served until 1957 when Bellevue became an incorporated town; Lumber Mill #1 - closed down1984; Lumber Mill #2 - closed down1989; gymnasium - demolished 1985; Schoolhouse - demolished 1985; Presbyterian church - current location
The first white people to Visit Mountlake Terrace were the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1805. The area was known as the "Sacramento of the Rockies" because it was a center for fur trade. In 1827, George Washington purchased land from the Indians at Mountlake Terrace and named it after himself. The first house on the property was built by Washington in 1798.
