This prevented the striker from continuing forward until released by another movement of the arm or hand, providing a reliable firearm activation system. In 1853, American Colonel George Armstrong invented what is now known as the Armstrong Gun Triggered System (AGTS). This new device featured a pivoting claw that allowed individuals to cock and fire a rifle with one hand while holding onto the barrel with the other hand. The AGTS became widely used in both American warfare and law enforcement settings across various countries.
The first guns that fired ammunition with a pull-tab were made in 1857 by American gunsmith Samuel Colt. The pistols used a percussion cap, which was inserted into the barrel and pulled back to fire the round.
