In 1916, Mountlake Terrace became part of Seattle when it was annexed by the city from Tacoma. After World War II, Mt Lake Tourney served as a military post for local troops until its closure in 1975; thereafter it functioned as a high school for students from Kitsap County and King County areas south of Seattle only. Since 2000, much development has taken place around Mountlake Terrace with mixed results: new housing projects have been approved but not built (e.g., Greenway Place), while older structures have been renovated or replaced with newer ones (such as Sacred Heart High School). As such, there has been an ongoing attempt to revitalize the community; some recent successes include increasing access to public transportation through expanding bike trails around town and creating a new park adjacent to Interstate 5 within sight of many properties in town

Mountlake Terrace is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. It is located on the eastern slopes of Mount Rainier National Park and along the banks of the Tieton River. The population was 2,052 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in what is now Mountlake Terrace were Native Americans who hunted game in the area. In 1867, General George Custer and his cavalry were stopped by Ulysses S. Grant's army near present-day Mountlake Terrace on their way to battle at Little Big Horn; Custer was captured and died in prison. A post office called Mountlake Terrace was established in 1868, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1905, a group of men from Seattle organized the Pioneer Association to promote farming around Puget Sound region; they named their organization after Mountlake Terrace on Bainbridge Island because that is where they had first seen land donated by Captain John Bainbridge for settlement. The men built a farmstead on what is now North Third Street just north of present-day Interstate 592 however it burned down during an arson attack three years later; this event helped start development of North third Street as one of Mountlake Terrace's most important commercial strips. In 1912, work began on creating what would become Mount Rainier National Park; extensive forest clearance followed before finally settling upon 714 acres (289 hectares) between East First Avenue and East Fourth Avenue within the park boundaries today. In 1916–18, construction began on both trails leading into park: One followed Pine Creek while another led up Beaver Creek watersheds into mountains northwest of townardsites today's Green Lake Village and Arlington Heights neighborhoods respectively today's Eagle Rock Resort Area east side trailhead entrance). These trails eventually became part of national Trails System routes 66 & 19 which connect many parks across America including Glacier National Park - White Pass Road & US99 travel guide says "the first sections were opened up July 1st 1919". Today hikers can access all seven loops around MtRainier starting from South Loop Mountain Trailhead about 0 mile NW from town center (3 miles roundtrip) with easy parking off I-5K exit 121A Capitol Hill Rd., walking or biking only short distances backcountry hiking roads lead meandering through montane forests traversing valleys reaching 8000' elevation
The city of Mountlake Terrace was founded on the site of a small Native American village in 1846. The first settler in the community was Abram S. Morse, who purchased land from the local tribe for $2 per acre. The town grew rapidly with the arrival of immigrants from Europe and Asia, and by 1860 there were over 100 residents. The town's first school opened in 1868, and by 1870 Mountlake Terrace had a population of over 350 people. In 1882, Mountlake Terrace became part of Seattle after it was annexed by the city.
