Stephenson, began manufacturing gunstocks for the United States Army at their home on Second Street in Mountlake Terrace. The first guns made in Mountlake Terrace were muzzleloaders and rifles imported from Europe. In 1882, Haggerty's son Addison took over the family business and continued producing firearms until his death in 1912. In 1907, the Stevens brothers purchased the business from Addison Haggerty's widow and continued production until they too died in 1925. The last firearms produced at Mountlake Terrace were shotguns manufactured by Harry Niles between 1927 and 1932.
Mountlake Terrace is a small town in King County, Washington. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is located on the west side of Seattle, about 11 miles east of downtown and 8 miles north of Mountlake Terrace Station on the Seattle-Tacoma railway line. The first settler in what is now Mountlake Terrace was James Halliday in 1851. He purchased land from the Indians and built a log cabin known as Cabin No. 2 on his farmstead in 1853. Other early settlers included John Newton who homesteaded west of present-day Mountlake Terrace in 1859, David Gunnarson in 1861, and Edwin Waymouth who settled near present-day Yelm Avenue and First Street in 1867. The first post office at Mountlake Terrace was established on July 10, 1865, by Wm. Henson with Nome Packing Company ballots. The name for the town was changed to Mountlake Terrace on May 6, 1870 by order of Governor Alexander Hamlin after it had been selected as one of five towns along the Tacoma Railroad route that would bebuilt during his term as governor. A grocery store and butcher shop were both operated out of a large frame building that served as an armory from 1880 to 1898 when that function moved to nearby Northgate Arsenal until 1907 when it burnt down; this fire also destroyed most of Northgate's buildings including its courthouse which still stands today adjacent to Interstate 5 south of Mountlake Terrice Station Road (US 26). MountLakeTerrastationHighSchool opened for school operations on October 15th 1915 under AAF jurisdiction following World War I activation there being no high school open within King County at that time; subsequent additions included basketball courts (1925), tennis courts (1927), football fields (1940), musical instruments storage/display area (1963), library services wing (1968) and additional classrooms/ offices (1991). On August 30th 1998 a new $50 million high school – part of KING High Schools project – opened dedicated named Cascade High School annexing portionsof former MtLakeTerrastation HS which sat vacant for many years due to buildout plans well into previous administrations hands but never completed despite numerous requests by community members; this facility includes multiple sportsfields(including baseball & soccer diamond], several auditoriums/ classrooms/, canteen/restaurant/. . .and more! Today's Mt Lake T terrance has its roots back over 125yrs ago when James Halliday settled here with his family! In 1851 he bought land from local tribe & built Cabin #2... later joiner David Gunnarson did too! Next door John Newton started building homes soon after too! By 1915 there were 3 schools open: AAF elementary - housed kids below grade level so they could go learn some basics then leave (& we all know how THAT went!), high school - now Cascade HS which housed upper grades through college preparatory classes & finally Menomonie School across First Ave from AAF elementary--which served grades K-12 thru adult daycare! Which leads us nicely onto today's community where residents come together everyday to help make ourTown great!!!
