When Mountlake Terrace was established as a town in 1892, the only type of firearms that could be possessed were shotguns. In 1904, Mountlake Terrace passed an ordinance outlawing handguns and also banned any type of muzzleloader. The first gun light in Mountlake Terrace was put into use on November 3, 1906. The original gun light was a battery-operated lantern that could be set to show one or two white lights at a time. The gun light had no power and would only stay on for a few seconds at a time. In 1912, the Mtlake Terrace Light Company was founded and began manufacturing gunlights with power sources such as gasoline lamps and nickel-cadmium batteries. In 1917, the company became known as the Mountlake Terrace Gun Lamp Corporation and produced their first electricGunlight. This electricGunlight used rechargeable batteries which allowed it to last up to 50 hours before needing to be recharged again. In 1935, the Mtlake Terrance Electric Light Company merger formed the current company name of Mountlake Terrace Lighting Incorporated (Mtlt). Since then, Mtlt has continued producing high quality electricGunlights hand-held or through an attached display unit (ADU) for larger venues including stadiums and convention centers.

In 1912, whenorney general Morrill designated Mountlake Terrice as an agricultural center because it offered good soil for crops and accessible water resources, business activity began to increase rapidly. By 1941, when census figures were available, Mountlake Terrice had become one of the most heavily populated towns in King County with over 3,000 residents
