Today,gun cleaning is still an important part of the community atmosphere here and many people enjoy taking part in this unique hobby. Mountlake Terrace was founded in 1881 by John Hargrave and his brother George as an agricultural village on the south bank of Lake Washington. The name is derived from Mountlake Terrace on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The population grew rapidly after World War II when people came to work in Boeing plants and other businesses in Everett and Renton. In 1970, the town annexed neighboring unincorporated communities of Beavercreek and Oso Heights. Today, Mountlake Terrace has a mix of suburban homes with farming properties that have been left agriculture-based since before World War II. Mountlake Terrace's rich history can be experienced starting with its first settlers: John Hargrave and George Hargrave who arrived from Vancouver Island in 1881 and established the village on what is now Lake Washington Boulevard. They were followed by their husbands David Laird and James Laird who each founded two sawmills along Lake Washington Boulevard; both mills were destroyed by fire but their daughter Jessie Jenssen rebuilt them both within a few years; also during this time period another family, the Fraser brothers arrived with cattle which led to more land being developed around Mountlake Terrice including farms, ranches, grain elevators (1921), a cement plant (1927), a hospital (1930) as well as schools (1881-1982).Today there are over 100 contributing buildings to MtLakesTerrace's rich history including six churches: Holy Cross Catholic Church located off SR 99 east of SR 520; First Baptist Church located west of I–5 north of I–405; Second Presbyterian church located east of SR 740 between Indianola Road/SR 740 & SE Best Way/I–405; Third Baptist church located across from CenturyLink Field on SW 118th Street between Maple Avenue & Laney Drive; Fourth Baptist church located northeast corner of NE 136th Street & NE Montrose Avenue where it joins NE 137th Street near CenturyLink Field After World War II many new families moved into MtLakesTerrace due to jobs opportunities at Boeing plants or other companies along Interstate 5 or Seattle – Redmond road such as Safeway etcetera giving rise to today’s mixed suburban- rural housing stock with some remaining agriculture based for longtime residents

Mountlake Terrace is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. Mountlake Terrace is located on the eastern side of Wahkiakum Lake and is bordered by the towns of Sumner to the north and North Bend to the south. The earliest permanent settler in Mountlake Terrace was John Wesley Powell who arrived in 1853. In 1850, Japanese immigrants started arriving in Mountlake Terrace and soon there were several wards established similar to American Indian reservations. By 1861, there were 10 residents living in Mountlake Terrace proper with an additional 50 or so people living scattered around Wahkiakum Valley. In 1865, when Congress passed the Homestead Act which gave landowners freehold title to their holdings within certain limits, many Japanese farmers bought land adjacent to Wahkiakum Valley for their own homes. Before long, Mountlake Terrace had become one of Puget Sound's first "Japanese-American" communities as nearly all of its residents were Japanses who had purchased or receivedhomestead titles from U.S. authorities during World War II following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941
On July 4, 1855, the United States Declaration of Independence was read from a large tent on Mountlake Terrace. The event is considered to be the first public appearance of U.S. President James K. Polk.
