The first guns were used in 1887 when troops from Washington State and Oregon fought a close battle at Nisqually River. For many residents, firearms were a way to protected their homes and families from Indian raids. Mountlake Terrace is home to two of the most famous firearm manufacturers in the world- Colt and Winchester. In 1911,Mountlake Terrace became the capital of Washington State and the first city in the United States to be founded on an existing Native American land grant. The Treaty of Wenatchee was signed by Chief Seattle and Governor Stevens, marking Seattle’s victory over Mexico in what is now known as America’s “Alaska Purchase.” With this new territory came new opportunities for trade and development. In 1912, Gun Club president Elmer Keith organized a rifle shooting competition at Nisqually River that would become known as the “Nisqually Rifle Championship Tournament” or simply “The Championship Tournament." This event would be held annually until 1978 when it was moved to Vancouver due to gun control laws being passed in that city

Mountlake Terrace is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1851 by fur traders and early settlers. The name means "mountain peak" in the local language. The first permanent settler in Mountlake Terrace was George Vancouver, who arrived in 1851 with his family from Russia. He named the peak after himself, Mountlake Ridge on the ridge he saw while surveying land for his new company. His son John also settled here and developed a small farming operation before migrating to Canada in 1882. In 1907, Seattle developer James Cushing built what is now Pioneer Square next to downtown Mountlake Terrace for business and pleasure workers and their families; this area became known as Mountlake Terrace Heights. In 1916 city planners recommended that Mountlake Terrace be annexed into Seattle to form a new neighborhood called South Lake Union; however, Solomon Stinson voted against annexation because he wanted to keep it as an agricultural community with few people living aboveground because of concerns about air pollution from factories near the town center. South Lake Union never formed and today only a portion of its original boundaries remains within Mountlake Terrance proper: most of what is now Shione Park falls within bounds of Northgate Shopping Center while some neighborhoods including Olympic Village/Everett remain part of Mtlake Terrace Heights even though they are not incorporated into the town itself. In 1951 Mayor Harry Helms ordered all businesses within one-half mile (one kilometer) of City Hall closed for lunch due to public health concerns about Lead paint being stored there by then-owner Wm.[2] Businesses reopened after hours later but were not allowed inside City Hall again until 1957 when lead-paint restrictions were lifted nationwide due to progress made toward eliminating lead poisoning among children through education programs such as Head Start From 1956 until 1978, Mtlake Terrace had its own post office which still operates today (federal law requires towns with more than 5,000 residents have a post office). During that time many prominent citizens including Seattle Mayor Royce Youngblood served at various high levels in government including First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt's home during her vacation weeks at Pinehurst Estate between 1945–46 On October 2nd 1988 evacuation orders were issued after several homes along Sherman Way caught fire; all residents except 3 pets evacuated without any loss or damage . After reporter's questions from viewers on KTLA television station Los Angeles over live satellite feed during their show "Theda Skocpol Reports" residents began returning home late that night following advice from firefighters

Mountlake Terrace is a small town in King County, Washington. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The population was 5,851 at the 2010 census. Mountlake Terrace is located on the eastern edge of Lake Washington and it straddles its border with Tacoma to the south. The first permanent settler in Mountlake Terrace was John Sinclair (1796-1868), who bought land from Chief Sealth in 1824. In 1854, he founded what became known as Sinclair's Station on an island in Lake Washington between Bellevue and Tacoma. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Mountlake Terrace was part of Union forces that besieged Fort Sumter in South Carolina. The town's storehouse served as a hospital for Confederate soldiers wounded during that battle. The Battle of Seattle took place on December 14th when Union troops under General Ulysses S. Grant attacked an encampment near present day Pioneer Square while Confederate Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Ewing led a detachment against them. A combined Union and Confederate force numbering 10,000 men faced 25 thousand Confederate troops under General Robert Ewell; however, after two days of combat only 1 hundred casualties were inflicted on both sides before dawn on December 15th when Grant ordered his retreat without further engagement or damage: this was one of history's single largest cavalry engagements ever fought and left no marks on either side except for some broken trees where men had been killed or taken prisoner
In 1847, the United States acquired Oregon from Britain. The area that now makes up Mountlake Terrace was part of the territory. In 1859, when Washington was admitted to the Union as a state, Mountlake Terrace became part of Seattle.
