It is located on the north shore of Lake Washington and is east of Seattle. Mountlake Terrace's history can be traced back to 1881 when a group of farmers set up shop in what is now the town center. Mountlake Terrace is a small town in King County, Washington. It is located on the eastern edge of Seattle and is bordered by Mount Baker to the east, Mercer Island to the north, and Puget Sound to the west. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in Mountlake Terrace were Native Americans who performed hunting and fishing operations near what is now downtown Mountlake Terrace. In 1851, Captain George Vancouver explored Puget Sound and named it after his home province of British Columbia - Mountlake Terrace being one of his many discoveries. In 1865, millionaire entrepreneur Andrew Carnegie bought 7 acres (2 hectares) of land east of downtown for $3,000. He built a house on this land and named it Carnegie Hall after his brother-in-law's estate in Scotland. By 1899, Carnegie had sold all his holdings in Mountlake Terrace except for one acre (0 hectare). In 1912 developer Charles Goodyear started developing what would become known as "Goodyear Heights." Goodyear renamed his development nicknamed "Mountlake Terrace" after nearby Lakeview Cemetery which he donated land to serve as an cemetery for low-income families. The first building erected on Goodyear Heights was a garage used by workers employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company until 1958 when that company moved its operations into their new headquarters across Pioneer Square from KeyArena which was then called Seattle Center before becoming CenturyLink Field.TodayMountlake Terrice's main street is Maple Avenue which runs through its center while several smaller streets branch off Maple Avenue creating an impressive grid pattern with a total length of over 30 blocks extending around the entire community totaling about 2 square kilometers or 0.8 square miles . A significant number of residents commute into Seattle each day including much of downtown including Pike Place Market where most goods are bought as well as Northgate Mall which has been among the fastest growing shopping districts in America since 2000 .

Mountlake Terrace is a census-designated place (CDP) in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue–Everett area. The CDP was established in 1990 as part of a larger metropolitan area that included Bellevue and Everett. The name comes from Mountlake Terrace Place on Seattle's South Lake Union waterfront. A stretch of Interstate 5 run through the center of the CDP is also known as "The Drive." According to the US Census Bureau, Mountlake Terrace has a total area of , all land. As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,711 people, 1,559 households, and 975 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 515.4 people per square mile (220.2/km²). There were 1,827 housing units at an average density of 269.5/sq mi (106.0/km²). The racial makeup of Mountlake Terrace was 97% White and 2% African American; hispanic or Latinoof any race were 0%. There were 1,559 households out of which 36% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61% were married couples living together, 8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23% were non-families. 20% of all households were made up of individuals and 6% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older. Mountlake Terrace was founded in 1853 by Zeno and Anna Ladd. The Ladds were landowning families from the town of Bothell, Washington. In 1855, they donated the land for a school and church on Mountlake Terrace. The first school opened in 1857, and the first church opened in 1861. Mountlake Terrace served as a hub for education and culture in the Puget Sound region. The community remained an important center until its decline during the 1950s and 1960s. Today, Mountlake Terrace is a neighborhood located in Seattle's Chinatown-International District.
