Mountlake Terrace is a census-designated place located in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,739 at the 2010 census. Mountlake Terrace is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. The village of Mountlake Terrace was organized in 1892 as a hamlet on the west side of Lake Washington by James A. Hill and his family. It became an incorporated town in 1903. In 1916, when it merged with neighboring villages of High Point and North Bend to form Mountlake Terrace Village, it had a population of 1,500 people. In 1959, the City of Seattle annexed much of what is now King County; including Mountlake Terrace Village, its incorporation ceased to have any legal effect and its residents were annexation applicants only until that year. As part of this process,Mountlake Terrace's city boundaries were redrawn to include most or all of the current campus areas for Seattle University (now called "Seattle University West"), as well as several acres around Lake Washington Stadium which then formed the eastern border for Mountlake Terrace betweenHigh Point Boulevard on the east shore and Interstate 5 on the west shore (the former site where High Point Elementary School used to be). As part of this changeover from village to city government, Mayor Ed Murray proposed annexing much or all of what are now known as Beacon Hill Neighborhoods within Mountlake Terrace Village – an idea that was approved by voters in November 2009 but has never been implemented due to concerns about potential adverse effects on property values within those neighborhoods. On December 14th 2013 it was announced that mounted officers from Tacoma Police Department would be quartered at The Vista Resort & Spa beginning Spring 2014
