Mountlake Terrace, Washington is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 13,569 at the 2010 census. Mountlake Terrace is located on Puget Sound and is adjacent to Seattle. It was founded by lumber baron George Vancouver in 1853 as a small town on what is now the eastern edge of Mountlake Terrace Park. The name stems from the fact that most of the land where Mountlake Terrace stands today was first forested and then leased to farmers for growing crops before being sold off to various lumber companies in the early 1800s. The Mt. Baker Mining District was established near Mount lake Terrace in 1886 after gold was found nearby by miners looking for new territories to explore following their discovery of quartz veins on the Columbia River Gorge. In 1898, when it became apparent that more than just minerals were being mined in those hillsides, Mt. Baker Mines managers decided to rename their property "Mountlake Terrace" after famed British explorer Sir John Franklin's home country of Scotland (the name had been used previously for an area around Seattle). In 1931, American Paper Machinery Corporation (APM) acquired interests in several Northwest Paper Mills including Mt. Baker Mines and opened its mill there which remain active today as APM Paper Mill #2-BK1 (formerly Western Paper Group paper plant #1). In 1956 APM merged with Dow Jones & Company and became part of Dow Jones Industrial Average parent company JONES CORPORATION until 1987 when it merged into Microsoft Corporation as Windows Media Center division Apogee plc.. In 2000 Microsoft divested itself of itsWindows Media Center divisions Apogee plc., Myriad Software Inc., Roxio Home Cinema Systems Incorporated and withdrew from public markets altogether; these operations continued under other names until 2006 when they were combined back into Microsoft Corporation once again as Windows Media Centers division Apogee plc.. Over time many businesses have cropped up around Mountlake Terrace such as Arby's restaurant chain which still operates out of its original building at 222 N Broadway Ave., Starbucks coffee shop which opened on 7th Ave NW near Interstate 5 Exit 123A in 1998, Best Buy store #376 east side across I-5 from Safeway grocery store #277 west side across I-5 exit 131A - currently defunct bestbuy has been replaced by another business called Army & Air Force Store

The settlement that would become Mountlake Terrace began as a small Native American village called Nisqually Station on an island in Lake Washington near present-day Bellevue. In 1855, Moses Chapman bought land from the local tribe and built a home there which he named Mountlake Terrace after his estate in London, England (now known as Mayfair). In 1857, John Smeaton purchased land from Chapman and founded a farming community called Mountlake Terrace around his home. By 1860, only about 30 people lived in Mountlake Terrance proper while 350 people lived scattered around its surrounding rural areas. By 1870, however, enrollment had increased to 600 with over 100 businesses established within the town limits. The first school opened in 1871; by 1880 it had expanded beyond just educational purposes to include a store and hotel. In 1901–02 work began on creating what would become Seattle's first major airport with help from millionaire entrepreneur James Wattenberg – one of Seattle’s early boosters for aviation – who donated $5 million toward its construction over 10 years starting in 1909. This event has been celebrated annually as "Wattenberg Day" ever since. During World War II when Tacoma was under siege by Japanese forces during the Battle of Midway Island area Mountlake Terrace residents did not wait for orders to evacuate but gathered their belongings and took off downriver towards Tacoma before being ordered back home later that day thanks to General Douglas MacArthur's air campaign against Japan! After World War II ended many citizens left MtLakeTerrace for greener pastures such as Everett or Lynnwood where housing prices were much lower than what they could find hereabouts so today there are few if any reminders that once prosperous MtLakeTerraceras once existed at all!
