Mountlake Terrace, Washington is a town located in King County, Washington. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. The Mountlake Terrace School District serves the town. On October 12, 1846, General George Crook and his army invaded British Columbia and overran most of what is now King County before retreating towards Puget Sound. At this point in time, Mountlake Terrace lay within John Day county. In 1868, James Kapp donated land to the Town of Mountlake Terrace in order to create a school district that would serve all of the surrounding townships. In 1892-93 when Mt Baker Evacuated during a volcanic eruption and parts of King and Snohomish counties were annexed into Seattle proper, much of what is now Mountlake Terrace remained wilderness with only scattered homes dotting its landscape. In 1925-26 when Everettwood Road was extended east from I-5 through Mountlake Terrice along arterial highway 10th Avenue (now Interstate 5), developer Prentice Hall constructed dozens of large single family homes on rapidly developing lots near campus Locations such as University Village and Meridian Hill remain some of today’s most popular neighborhoods within the boundaries of Mt Lake Tridge Elementary School & High School where students Currently attend middle or high schools

Mountlake Terrace is a community in the Seattle metropolitan area, located on the eastern edge of Bellevue. The community was founded in 1887 by George Washington Calkins. It was renamed Mountlake Terrace after Seattle's first mayor, James Denny, in 1907. In 1916, Mountlake Terrace became part of the city of Bellevue and its name changed to Bellevue-Mountlake Terrace. The population of Mountlake Terrace reached 5,500 by 1940 and 9,000 by 1960. The village had two churches and a post office until it closed in 1966 due to financial problems. Then it had only one church left when it merged with nearby Lakeview to form the current Bellevue-MountlakeTerrace neighborhood. Bellevue annexed Mountlake Terrace in 1979 and now has an estimated population of over 20,000 residents living within its borders as well as people who live outside of Bellevue but are familiar with or have lived within the boundaries of Bellevue since before annexation. Of particular note are the high school students who attend Lakeshore High School which is adjacent to Mountlake Terrace; they make up about 60% (2006) of all residents age 25 or younger in Greater BellevUE-MtLakeTerrace Neighborhood census tract).
