The history of airguns in Mountlake Terrace, Washington goes back to the early 1800s. There were at least two gunsmiths in the town who made and sold airguns. One was Samuel Jarvis, who built his shop on State Street in 1824. The other was John Pritchard, who operated a gunshop on Third Avenue from 1847 to 1850. In 1856, John Fenton opened an airgun store on Second Avenue in Mountlake Terrace. He also manufactured firearms and shotguns there. In 1896, Harry Jahn became the first person to sell an airgun with a revolving cylinder magazine in Mountlake Terrace. He also began manufacturing firearms there. His business continued until 1951 when it moved to Tacoma and he died there that year. In 1951, Wm Sibley started sales of airguns at his home on First Avenue in Mountlake Terrace. He also manufactured handguns and shotguns there until his death in 1984. In 1957, Jack Bowers established Airgun Sales Inc., which continues to operate today as one of the leading wholesale dealers of airguns worldwide! Jack Bowers was instrumental in helping establish mountlake terrace as an internationally known center for the manufacture and sale of airguns!

The first American firearms manufacturer in Mountlake Terrace was Ransom and Van Ness in 1885. In 1896, W.B. Morse & Sons organized a gunsmithing business in Mountlake Terrace that became known as Morse Bros., Ltd.. In 1902, John Brownell established his rifle store and shooting range here with an outdoor pistol ground on the lot now used by Target Shooting at 5th Ave NE and Northeast 82nd St NW. Brownell also manufactured shotguns here from 1903 until 1911 when he moved to Olympia (now Seattle). Brownells rifles still form a significant part of the recoil history of many airguns today
Mountlake Terrace is a small community in Washington state, located on the north shore of Lake Washington. The population of Mountlake Terrace was 1,543 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue-Everett metropolitan area. The name "Mountlake Terrace" comes from two places: one meaning high ground and one meaning terrace. The first half of the name is derived from Mount Rainier which dominates the skyline in western Mountlake Terrace; while the second half comes from a piece of property that contains an old mill which sat on a hill overlooking downtown Bellevue until it was destroyed by fire in 1907. George Vancouver's surveyor, John McLoughlin, named two roads after Mount Rainier: Kitsilano Road and Indian Hill Road. In 1851, when Governor Stevens appointed George Vancouver as Surveyor General for all British Columbia, he also assigned him authority to make surveys for new settlements in Oregon Territory including what would become Mountlake Terrace. When McCloughlin surveyed this land he found it ideal for farming because there were ample forests and streams nearby to provide water supplies and milk for cows. In 1872, over 100 people living around Kitsilano Heights built a cabin called White Sands on what became known as Point Defiance Way (). This was the first permanent settler's location in what would eventually be Mountlake Terrace. Workers building the Tacoma smelter started on December 16th 1870 () and finished on January 15th 1871 (). As Puget Sound became more developed with increased shipping traffic through Seattle Bay necessitating larger ships moored along WA State waterfronts (like Mercer Island), so too did Seattle demand better access to farmland closer to their cities via roadways like Kitsilano Boulevard (), White Sands Boulevard (), etc., creating areas such as Ballard where single family homes stand today without any connection to commercial or social life outside those neighborhoods; until Everett emerged as an important transportation hub connecting different parts of King County with various industrial districts south of I-5 during late 20th century suburban growth sprawl across much of Western Washington (see Kirkland-Bellevue commuter belt). By 1890 most townspeople had moved away from Point Defiance Way (); but some residents continued to live there until 1955 due to its strategic location near several businesses that could handle deliveries directly into town during winter months when Highway 10 was closed off entirely between Everett and Olympia due to construction projects elsewhere (euphemistically called 'The Hardscape'). Today remnants can still be seen near intersections such as Kitsilane Avenue () and Vine Street (). Residents began moving back into Point Defiance Way starting around 1955 following completion of construction projects nearby including Umpqua Valley Bridge (); Interstate 5 (); & Harrison Roads Race Course tho' now only used for pony racing events not everyday driving conditions these days

Mountlake Terrace is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Mountlake Terrace was John Bidwell in 1854. A post office was established at Mountlake Terrace on October 15, 1855, and remained operational until it was discontinued on November 1, 1955. The first school for children in Mountlake Terracewas built in 1870 by Mrs. John Wickersham and Mrs. Sallie Jane McMillan. There were only five students in 1870 when the school opened; today there are over 100 students attending the schools serving Mountlake Terrace as well as other nearby communities. In 1865 Coles saw potential for agricultural land around Tacoma he had been acquiring from Native Americans since coming to Washington Territory with his fur companyaches back from what is now Alberta Province of Canada two years earlier that year. He offered $10 per acre to anyone who could develop it and began selling lots in what is now Mountlake Terrace beginning November 1, 1865 under the name of "Coles Prairie." By 1870 Coles had developed over 3 miles (4 km) of railroad track east of his original farm site which he named after himself - Mountlake Avenue east of Intersection Street near where Interstate 5 crosses Puget Sound today
