Mount Vernon is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,992 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. The first gun target in Mount Vernon was a small blacksmith shop that sat on the corner of Union and Pennsylvania Streets. The shop was built around 1855 by John Rodgers and donated to Mount Vernon by his wife Rachelle Rogers. The first man to shoot at a gun target in Mount Vernon was Wm. Hustedt on November 10th, 1856 using an old cannonball as the projectile. In 1862, General Ulysses S. Grant visited Mount Vernon and called for all citizens to arm themselves against Confederate forces that were attempting to invade Washington state. Soon after, many residents of Mount Vernon began purchasing guns and starting their own businesses aroundguns target shooting competitions and social events enjoyed by friends and family alike became commonplace in the community center located off US-101W from State Street (). In 1865, local resident Willis Dyer organized a rifle team which traveled to Battle Creek Michigan for theUSA Rifle Championship where they placed 2nd behind Ohio’s Buckeye Firearms Company By 1870 there were over 100 gun targets located throughout Mount Vernon In 1876, William Jenson opened up his business Jenson's Gun Emporium & Pistolry store located just east of Main Street west of Union Avenue within sight of what would become known as "The Gables". From here customers could buy or rent rifles (or shotguns) for use at various local fairs Jenson also served as President pro tempore of King County from 1889 until 1890 In 1895 JensonsGun Emporium closed its doors for good but not before leaving behind some memorable items including one original muzzleloader stock still extant today used by Mrs. Harry Bemis during her time as Treasurer for King County between 1945-1949

Mount Vernon is a historic home in Washington, D.C., United States, originally built for George Washington and his family in 1799. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The estate includes 10 contributing buildings and an associated parkland covering 5,000 acres (2 km²). Mount Vernon is one of the most significant tourist destinations in the metropolitan area. The first permanent settler on what would become Mount Vernon was General John Forbes on December 7, 1792. He left behind a small farmstead which he named "Fording Green". In 1802, General James K. Polk renamed it Mount Vernon after himself as part of a larger effort to rename all U.S. military installations after political leaders or other important figures from American history beginning with George Washington's inauguration as president on April 30, 1800. In 1862–3, during the American Civil War, Confederate forces burned down much of Mount Vernon while seeking refuge at Fort Sumter in South Carolina; this event is commemorated by a plaque at the fort that reads: "This fortifications were destroyed by order of Federal Commander Robert Ewell May 8th 1862." The damage to the mansion and gardens was extensive; but restoration began in earnest following World War II and ended only with President Lyndon Johnson's dedication ceremonies on July 22nd 1967.
