Moses Lake is a town in Grant County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. Moses Lake is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Moses Lake's namesake comes from the Potomac River that flows through it. The name "Moses" is Hebrew for "peaceful waters." The community was established in 1882 as a result of an act by Territorial Governor W C Pendleton. On May 9, 1882, the first post office was opened at Moses Lake with John A. Brown as the first postmaster. In 1899, Rev J F Kapp took over as postmaster and continued to serve until his death on October 15, 1951. The first store in town was operated by Ira Hanks and his sons Julius and Harry in 1895. It became known as the Mather Store and later changed its name to Julius Hanks & Company when Ira's son Julius took over ownership in 1909. In 1912, Willis Bowers started a flour mill which would eventually become one of the largest mills in Washington state; it closed down in 1984 but reopened briefly in 2006 as Willamette Flour Mill #2 LLC before shutting down again due to low sales volume In 1917-18 local resident Della Goodyear organized her family into what would become known as Goodyear Library Foundation Inc., serving as its president for many years before selling it to Renton Edmonds Library District effective July 1st 2007
