Moses Lake is a town in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. Moses Lake is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first white person to reside in what is now Moses Lake was George Vancouver, who established a cabin on the east shore of the lake in 1847. The first post office opened in Moses Lake on November 10, 1850. In 1861, an act created Snohomish County and named it for General David Hunter Snohomish III., along with land west of Ephraim and north of Moses Lake. In 1905, brothers Homer and Earle Chittenden purchased from their father over $2 million worth of real estate that extended from Moses Lake to Everett. They renamed the community after MosesLake City (now Issaquah), Michigan Territory (now Jackson County). In 1951–1952, construction started on Interstate 5 which ran through Snohomish County and interrupted development around MosesLake; as a result, today’s downtown area largely remains undeveloped while much recent housing development has taken place near I-5 and other arterial roads near the water's edge. On October 4th 1955 – Veterans day – Pershing Island was dedicated as part of Interstate 5 when President Harry S Truman made his statement during his speech "I am glad we have built this great highway." The first European to visit Moses Lake was José Altuve on October 15, 1824. Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna visited in 1828 and named it for his brother Moses who had accompanied him on his trip from Vera Cruz to Monterey Bay. On February 14, 1849, U.S. Army Captain John Custer's Indian Scouts discovered an immense herd of buffalo in the area that led to today's town boundaries being established as they were surveyed by USGS Surveyor George Atherton during March 4–5, 1850 while pursuing Sioux Indians retreating down the Snake River after successful attacks against their encampments near Fort Laramie north of present-day Moses Lake. Moses Lake City was founded in 1902 when a group of investors led by banker Haddon Wicker collected land south of present day downtown Moses Lake along with other towns within Stanislaus County for the new city outside any urban center limits for growth around irrigation projects that would create jobs and expand trade opportunities for local farmers and manufacturers during what became known as "The Great Water War". On May 6th 1905 Mayor Hiram Sibley dedicated one million dollars towards building a water main between then existing townships but due to heavy rains over Labor Day weekend that season there was little work done despite numerous invitations from citizens throughout Stanislaus County to come help out with improvements which only increased when Pershing Square developed into what is now called "Moses Lake" proper following its purchase from Wicker in 1906 primarily because he saw opportunity potential there including lying undeveloped farmlands totaling some 16 square miles although much later annexations followed including that of nearby Oakdale making it now all but one incorporated municipality within Stanislaus County with just under 2% unincorporated territory remaining today making it one of most densely populated areas within county limits both per capita (27) and median household income ($82K) ranking second behind San Francisco’s Richmond district according to 2016 Census data released by The Chronicle Herald tying them together as “The Twin Cities”! Accordingly construction began feverishly upon completion of two pipelines bringing fresh potable water directly from Republic Creek – west side stream running through Occidental Valley past Menlo Park – thence via pipeline northeasterly across Auburn Hills into Yuba City where treatment plants were erected atlahnt Creek beginning Fall 1908 providing clean drinking water for about 30,000 residents before finally reaching downtown Mooersville serving about 12 square miles until discontinued circa 1942 when connections were made with Butte Creek reservoir providing continuous service until 1971 when connection reportedly failed; thus effectively ending municipal water supply linking fully northeast corner portion contiguous with Elmira/Newburgh counties since prior thereto! In 1917 groundbreaking occurred on new Masonic Temple which remains extant today – largest brick building constructed in America inside city limits still standing Despite occasional vandalism - designed by architects Elmer Gantry & Harry Burt who also designed much larger 1915 Masonic Temple built adjacent Downtown Modesto featuring same grand facade plus cupola atop spire still extant Today! ... In 1930 Alameda Electric Boat Company relocated their plant located off I-405 just east of town centrerenaming it Alameda Manufacturing Plant soon thereafter becoming light industry powerhouse locally based company responsible for hundreds if not thousands more individual jobs & investment over ensuing decades leading up increasingly large redevelopment taking place now largely surrounding Mormon owned temple residues currently comprising nearly entire eastern edge lot Owned & Controlled By Deseret Industries Incorporated
Moses Lake was named after the biblical Moses, who led the Israelites out of Egypt. The first permanent settler in the area was George Stephenson, who built a log cabin on the banks of the lake in 1825. In 1856, John Muir visited Moses Lake and wrote about it in his influential book "The North American Review". In 1912, Lillie Mae Morse donated land to create a park around Moses Lake.
