The brothers also farmed on their property adjacent to I-5 for many years until they sold it in 1895 to Jens Jensen who operated a general store until 1907 when he merged with rival grocer Fred Condon to form Safeway Incorporated (later Sam’s Club). During World War II construction began on Interstate 5 between Seattle and Tacoma and by 1950 most development had stopped due to war shortages; however, early growth resumed with new housing developments being developed along both sides of I-5 northward from downtown Seattle including Roy Rogers Place across from Lake Union/Everett Marketplace just south of Interstate 90; this later became Safeway’s primary distribution center for eastern Washington outside King County whileSeattle continued its role as an important commercial center providing jobs for those within that region during peacetime periods before dwindling further during recent decades due largely to suburbanization around that congested core city center over time paralleling Interstate 5 mainline mileage expansion beyond its original intent cores served primarily automotive manufacturing & service employment services centered principally downtown& bordered by increasingly upscale Everett suburbs & peripheral residential neighborhoods expanding rapidly eastward into ruralKing County resulting today in an extremely diverse Regional Center encompassing much central Puget Sound region excluding rural Everett
