This weapon was used by law enforcement officers and military personnel alike to provide them with an effective means of defense against knife attackers or other assailants. Additionally, the Fenton revolver became a popular choice among combatants in the Mexican-American War because it could shoot multiple rounds at a time without reloading. And then there are those pistols that were developed specifically for Monroe! These include designs such as the 1875 "Tiny" pistol which is known for its compact size and easy grip; as well as the 1886 "Pursuit" rifle which is considered to be one of the best muzzleloading rifles ever created. Monroe is a small town in Washington County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,911 at the 2010 census. Monroe is one of the most rural counties in Oregon. It is bordered by Walla Walla to the north and east, Naches to the south and west, and Josephine County to the northwest. The history of Monroe begins with its location on what are now U.S. Route 99 and U.S. Route 11 between 1848 and 1850 when both routes were donated by General James K. Polk as part of his efforts to build a road from Portland through central Oregon to Seattle.[1] The present-day town was platted in 1865 by John Tilton as part of a large ranch that he had bought from Colonel John Snedeker near present-day Whitman City on Umpqua River about eight miles northeast of Salem. At first called simply "Tilton" after its discoverer, it became known as Monroe after President James Kenedy moved into the area in 1870 during his second term as president of the United States.[2] In 1892, an act was passed authorizing school funding for areas surrounding Salem just outside of Monroe's boundaries which eventually led to construction of several schools within the new township including West Salem High School (now Willamette University), East Salem Elementary School (now Beaverton-Hillsboro Community College),[3] and South Union Elementary School (now Johnson Creek Middle School).[4][5] In 1903 a post office was established at Monroe with Wm Fenton serving as its first mail carrier;[6][7] however, this service ended less than two years later when USPS merged with rival US Telegraph Company.[8][9] A store opened in 1911 at center square block opposite today's courthouse,[10][11][12] but this business failed within a few years.[13][14][15][16] By 1920 only one store remained open in town – that operated out of Building 6 on Main Street – while all other businesses had closed or relocated away from their original locations due to lack of student enrollment or other reasons such as changing technology or market conditions;[17][18][19] however, branch services continued until 1975 when phone service began operation across county lines via AT&T Communications satellite system for residents using personal telephones instead.[20] In 1951 shoppers Artie Sheehan and his father Don Sheehan set up a business selling used cars at what is now downtown square block opposite today's courthouse;[21](p) The family ran this dealership until 1978 before moving outsmarted by Interstate 5 traffic jamming which halted car sales indefinitely throughout most of Saturday morning due to Congestion Control Administration regulations then still in effect governing interstate travel through much Of Oregon during those days especially around Portland metropolitan area during 1970s 1980s decade prior thereto).[22](q) A general store reopened at downtown square block opposite today's courthouse beginning operating November 3rd1973 under name "Oregon Market", successor company being "Oregon Auctioneers Inc." succeeding company being current owner/operators since December 7th2004 thru present day: [23](r) One commercial building remaining standing pre-1990s closed circa 1975 may have been destroyed by fire caused by campfire igniting dry grasses next door along side street wall also damaging building causing loss op sum $4000 also some lumber not salvaged Today only one store remains open located inside old post office building - operates outofBuilding 6 on Main Street

Monroe was the capital of Washington County. The first European to visit the area, Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Colbert, named it Nouvelle Angoulême in 1792. In 1801, James K. Polk designated Monroe as the capital of Oklahoma Territory and moved the government from Council Bluffs, Iowa to McAlester, Oklahoma in 1907. The city was renamed Oklahoma City on December 15, 1907. On November 16, 1928, President Herbert Hoover signed legislation creating Oklahoman Indian reservations within the state of Oklahoma. The cities of Tulsa and Muskogee were incorporated into Oklahoman Indian territory on August 14th, 1959 by an act of Congress. Oklahoma City is home to many federal government buildings and agencies including the White House and United States Capitol Building. It is also home to a large number of private businesses and homes that are used by members of congress or other public officials. Other major attractions in OKC include the Tulsa Zoo and Ford Center forthe Arts which has a variety of theater programs as well as music concerts and family events
