The Mill Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of Washington. It flows south from the Cascades National Park and enters the Wenatchee River at an elevation of 6,000 feet (1,600 meters). The stream eventually joins the Wenatchee River at its confluence. Mill Creek was named for John Mill, a settler in what is now Olympia. The first public water supply for Olympia was established by mill owners on Mill Creek in 1839. The creek's name may be derived from pioneer days when it flowed between two large hills and was not easily accessible from any point downstream. The Mills family held title to most of the land around which Mill Creek runs until 1911, when they sold all their holdings to Seattle City Councilmember George Wickersham for $720,000 cash. Wickersham had been elected mayor of Seattle in 1909 and wanted to improve transportation infrastructure in the city center and make it more accessible for people with disabilities. He donated part of his donation to create a park on Capitol Hill that would house many disabled citizens as well as facilities such as a library and gymnasiums for the city's schoolchildren. Today, much of Capitol Hill is dominated by apartment buildings that were built after World War II; however, part of Capitol Hill still contains some remnants of mills including the Millen Center building which served as home to Seattle's first grocery store before that store moved out in 1967.

Mill Creek is a small stream located in the eastern part of King County, Washington. The creek was originally named for John Mill, a local landowner. It flows through the town of Georgetown and the rural communities of Willow and Maple Grove. The mill on Mill Creek operated from 1853 to 1971. Today, the mill is used as an elementary school. The first mills in this area were built around 1790 by Nicholas Perley and his brother-in-law David Thompson at what is now known as Mill Road in Georgetown. By 1853, there were four mills along the stream with twelve cottages and two churches on its banks. The mills manufactured flour, hay, sawdust, nails, paper products, boots and shoes.Around 1861-1862 Elijah Couch established a gristmill on the creek near where it enters Maple Grove Township. In 1865-1866 Amos Eaton constructed a sawmill on the creek near present day Willow Park Boulevard in Georgetown.In 1871-1872 James Geddes erected a cotton gin on Mill Creek between present day Maple Grove Boulevard and Willoughby Avenue in Willow Grove for making raw cotton into cloth that was sold at auction house in Seattle During World War II German POWs were interned at No Name Ranch east of Willow Grove until 1945 when they were moved to Walla Walla where they continued working until their release without pay into civilian life in 1948 The last mills closed down around 1971 when new production methods became available such as Spray starchation which made prepped food more resistant to spoilage than traditional oven baking Today's community had its start when two brothers - Josephine (John) Cadwallader Iles and George Cadwallader Iles - bought some property along Beaver Lake Road east of Georgetown from Samuel Pickett about eighteen months after he acquired it from his wife Abigail Pickett about 1800 acres southeast of Spokane They began farming corn, beans, potatoes and wheat which they raised with help from their father John Cadwallader Iles Sr., grandfather John Cadwallader Iles Jr., uncle William Cadwallader Iles III and cousins Asahel Cadwallader Iles IV through 1870 . After Josephine's death her husband George took over farm operations . By 1880 most families had several children working together including those listed above who worked together until 1911 upon George's death leaving one son Asahel cadwalader ile married Esther Hindman Peake during that year
The Mill Creek Massacre took place on October 15, 1855, when Native Americans killed six settlers at a mill on the creek. The massacre is considered to be one of the worst Indian massacres in American history.
