It is interesting to note that even though those institutions no longer operate on Mercer Island today they continue to produce astronomical software for personal use providing you have enough technical savvy!). As technology progressed it became easier for individuals also to purchase optic components such as mirrors/eyeballs/lenses/printers etcetera from manufacturers directly without having need go through institutions like RAS or Celestron Corporation etc..
