Bullets in Mercer Island, Washington date back to the 1890s. At that time, the area was part of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. One of the team’s members, James Mitchell, developed a way to fire small rounds off a bow and arrow. This invention led to what is now called “Mitchell’s Bullet.” The bullet was later improved by George Stephenson and became known as the Stephenson Bullet. It traveled at an impressive 91 mph when it was fired from a cannon in Fort Point on Vancouver Island in 1892. In 1902, Mercer Island became part of Seattle and new bullets were developed for use in that city.

Mercer Island is a census-designated place in the King County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,634 at the 2010 census. Mercer Island is located on the eastern side of Mercer Island Sound and is bordered by Lake Washington to the north and east, Puget Sound to the south and west, and Bremerton Bay to the northwest. The island was founded by Danish immigrants in 1851 as an agricultural colony. In 1886, it became part of Seattle after annexation by that city. The name may be derived from John Mercer who donated land for a lighthouse there in 1857. In 1957, construction began on what would become one of America's first large airports – Sea-Tac Airport. The airport has served both commercial and military customers since its opening in 1959 and has helped increase tourism on Mercer Island. More recently, it has become home to several businesses such as Gartner Inc.'s research center which opened in 2007; Microsoft's Redmond campus which opened in 2009; Amazon Web Services' cloud computing facility which opened in 2011; and Starbucks Coffee Company's new store building whichopened in 2013. Today, Mercer Island enjoys a high degree of development with excellent access to many services including shopping malls (including Canada Place), restaurants/cafes/barbecue joints/breweries/nightlife venues etc., as well as boat ramps for ATV or motorcycle use as well as tennis courts for outdoor recreation purposes.

Mercer Island is a small island located in the Puget Sound of Washington. It was first settled by the Chinook people in the early 1800s and became a part of Seattle in 1851. The island is named for General Mercer, who commanded U.S. forces during the Mexican-American War and helped win that war for the United States. In 1907, Mercer Island was annexed by Seattle, making it part of that city's built up area. In 1960, Mercer Island was made an official neighborhood of Seattle and remains so today. The history of Mercer Island goes back to at least 1792 when Captain James Cook discovered it while sailing along the coast of British Columbia. The Chinook people were already living on this site when Cook arrived, and they continued to live there until they were displaced by other Native American groups in 1851. The land on which Mercer Island now stands was acquired from the Kitsap Nation by Seattle in 1907 after a years long campaign led by Mayor George Stevenson (D). After annexation into Seattle, Mercer Islanders voted to keep their own government, with mayor Jens Hansen (R) serving as its head from 1959 until his death in 1983. The first residents on Mercer Island were primarily fishermen who used their boats to access Puget Sound waters for trade with local villages ashore.
