In 1847, the town of Marysville was founded by James W. Merrill and his family. The Merrill family were farmers and loggers who settled in the area in the early 1800s. In 1847, they founded a sawmill on the Columbia River, which would become one of the largest mills in Washington. The town grew quickly, and by 1850 it had a population of around 100 people. In 1865, Marysville became part of Washington Territory after Oregon was acquired by America. At this time, Marysville was home to a small post office and a few shops. By 1870, however, the population had grown to over 500 people and there were also several stores and businesses in town. In 1892, Marysville incorporated as a city with its own government and economy. The city continued to grow until it reached its current size in 1994.
