The history of Marysville begins with John Davenport who settled on what is now known as Northwest Side Road in 1872. He founded the town because he wanted to provide a place where his family could live close to nature without having to leave their farmland behind. Davenport named his new community after his wife, Margaret, because she was instrumental in helping him achieve success as a farmer throughout his life. By 1888, when Marysville became an incorporated city, it had quickly become one of the most important stations on the Yakima Valley Railroad system due to its location position within close proximity to major markets and towns throughout Walla Walla County including Moses Lake and Aberdeen. Over time, the city continued develop based on its own unique strengths which included: becoming home to one of the largest industries inwalla walla county- cattle raising-; developing strong trade relationships with nearby towns; and playing an important role within civic life both locally and nationally. Marysville was founded by George Washington in 1789. The town was named for Captain John Marys, an early settler. From the beginning, Marysville was a men’s town. There were few women until the late 1800s. The first post office in Marysville was established in 1828. The town experienced growth during the early 19th century due to its strategic location on the Columbia River and its access to mills and other resources. In 1847, with the opening of Theosis Mill, Marysville became one of the most important cities on the Columbia River corridor. By 1860, it had a population of over 6,000 people and boasted impressive infrastructure including two hospitals and a school system that served as models for later towns on the river corridor. During World War II, Marysville played a significant role in Nazi Germany’s attempt to supply supplies to troops near Seattle. In 1945, following Japan's surrender, many Japanese-owned businesses were seized by U.S. authorities and placed into bankruptcy; this led to increased economic activity in Marysville but alsosteeped social tensions among longtime residents of what had once been an all-male townspeople
On November 8, 1846, the town of Marysville was organized by an act of the Washington Territorial Legislature. The town was named after General George A. Smith, a Confederate general and Union Army officer who fought in the Mexican-American War and in the American Civil War. In 1847, land was donated to the town by David Hodge, a farmer from Maine who had come to America to escape religious persecution back home. The first school in Marysville was built on land donated by Hodge. The school continued to be run by local farmers until it closed in 1876. The first store opened in Marysville in 1850. In 1863, a post office was established at Marysville with Wm. Dickson as its first mail carrier. Marysville became one of the original towns when Spokane County was formed on February 14, 1907 from parts of Pierce and Snohomish counties. In 1916, Marysville became part of what is now known as Seattle Municipal District #2 due to annexation by Seattle into city limits during that year's annexation process. After World War II ended, many small businesses closed across Washington due to technological advancements which made production easier and less expensive overseas than here at home; however, some small businesses did continue operation until they went out of business or were acquired by larger companies over time. In 1951, a new high school building replaced an old one that had been damaged in a fire two years earlier; this new building served as the center for education for all residents of Seattle Municipal District #2 until it burned down in 1976.
