In 1862, when the U.S. Civil War started, Waddell enlisted in the Union army as a private and served until he was honorably discharged in 1865. After his discharge, Waddell resumed farming and prospered until 1889 when railroad construction began Nativity Valley Railroad Company which changed his name to Marysville plumber John Purdy for marketing purposes In 1902 two brothers named George and Clarence Griggs purchased land west of town from John Purdy for $3 per acre (later raised to $10). They planned to build a mill that would create jobs for locals and export flour from their fields into Seattle via wagon roadways bypassing Issaquah County In 1907 Charles Hillman built an addition to his home here which became known as "The Hillman House." It is located on the east bank of the Juanita River and falls within the Susquehanna National Forest. The first European to visit Marysville was Capt. George Vancouver on July 25, 1792 while exploring what is now British Columbia. He named the river's stream after his wife's maiden name, Marysville (or Merville). The first permanent settler in what would become Marysville was Elijah White in 1838. He did notch any land and only built a cabin near what is now known as Main Street. By 1850 there were about 20 people living in Marysville and 3 stores. In 1851 James Wills organized a Methodist church which met for two years before being disbanded because of lack of finances. A school was also established in 1851 but it closed due to financial problems soon afterwards. In 1860, John Hargrave erected a log cabin on the eastern side of town from where he operated a trading post until 1870 when he sold it to Wm Henson who ran a sawmill and gristmill here until 1924 when his son Harry bought it back from him and continued operations as Henson Sawmills & Grinding Co., Incorporated until 1981 when it became part of International Paper Company subsidiary Northwest Paper Products plc.. In 1896, Jesse Ladd started farming here withraised grain that he imported from Canada which made him one of the early farmers in this area; by 1910 there were 5 liverystable proprietorsHere serving over 12,000 passengers daily with train service running between Seattle and Spokane In 1916 Jens Petersen married Ida Dahlquist who had come to town from Seattle three years earlier; they raised Hereabouts until their death together in 1984.) Marysville was once a small town in Washington State. It is now a census-designated place (CDP) and the seat of Marysville Township. The population was 3,483 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1855 by John and Nancy Smith, two white men from Kentucky who had emigrated to Washington Territory. The Smiths named their home "Marysville" after their mother's maiden name, also Mary. In 1857, the United States Post Office moved from Seattle to Marysville, and the first post office building was built there. The town developed as a agricultural center due to its location on irrigated land that supplied water for agriculture and mills in neighboring towns. At one point, Marysville had a flour mill, an implement factory, three churches and five schools. A sawmill was also located in the early years of the town. In 1906, when Washington became an state with its own government, Marysville became part of it as well. As part of this changeover process, most businesses operating within the new state were relocated to Olympia or Tacoma so that they could be more easily marketed to residents of the newly independent states of Oregon and Alaska. By 1910, however, only one business remained operational in Marysville: The Litchfield Hotel which served as a local inn until 1959 when it closed down because of financial difficulties caused by competition from motel chains such as Holiday Inn Express.. During World War II most notably during Operation Neptune's Spear (1946), much activity took place within then rural farming community while larger cities were evacuated for fear of enemy attack; many stores remain open today providing essential services like groceries and gasoline supplies despite being outof service for extended periods Of course not all businesses have bounced back since war ended but given how rural life has changed so much since then I feel like things could use some good karma
