The first guns made in Marysville were muzzleloaders and muskets. The town was founded by General George Armistead in 1847 as a trading post on the Snake River. It became an important stop on the Oregon Trail because it had access to good water resources and favorable hunting grounds. In 1907, there was an amendment to the Washington Constitution which granted citizens of the state the right to bear arms “for self-defense purposes only”. This amendment also stated that any person owning or possessed any firearm could possess it without having to obtain a license from the state government. It should be noted that this right did not apply to citizens of neighboring states such as Idaho and Nevada who had similar rights with regards to owning firearms under their respective constitutions. From 1916 until 1959, Marysville had its own police department which was run by a captain with jurisdiction over all aspects of town life including crime prevention, law enforcement, firefighting and public works. After World War II, however, many changes took place within the local community which eventually led to ultimate disbandment of the police department in 1959 due to budgetary concerns; however, officers continue their duties through various other agencies such as sheriff’s deputy services or volunteerism
Marysville is a small town in Washington State, located on the same latitude as Seattle. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from Mary, daughter of Joseph and his wife Hannah. In 1851, when this area was still part of Oregon Territory, the General Store opened in what is now Marysville. It became an important commercial center due to its location on the route between Portland and Seattle. The first post office in Marysville was established in 1852. By 1865, it had become a thriving community with over 100 businesses operating under one roof. The growth of Marysville paralleled that of Seattle; both towns started out as small villages before becoming major metropolitan areas by the early 20th century. One significant feature of Marysville’s history is its role as a key transportation hub for both cities during their early years as metropolises. Until about 1900, buses traveled between Portland and Seattle via Marysville; this service ceased when Interstate 90 was built east of the town limits. In 1984, the town annexed part of SeaTac Airport to its boundaries making it one of only two towns in King County to have both an airport within its borders and also be a municipality with its own police department
In 1881, the town of Marysville was organized through a petition from citizens. The town was named in honor of the wife of U.S. Senator George Washington. The first post office in Marysville was established in 1882, and the first store opened in 1886. In 1905, the first high school was built and two years later, the first Agricultural School was founded. In 1916, Marysville became a city and soon had a population of over 100 people. By 1920, the city had developed into an important agricultural center with many businesses and homes located along North Second Street between East Ninth Avenue and West Tenth Avenue.
