Marysville is a town in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Yakima metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Marysville was John Day in 1847. The town was named for Mount Saint Michaels Abbey, which was located about east of present-day Marysville on the Columbia River. Settlement began around 1855 when two men, Isaac Morse and James Fenton, started to build a house on what is now Main Street. The town was officially incorporated on May 15, 1857. The first store in Marysville opened its doors on December 8, 1859; it became the first store in Yakima County and one of only three stores open before Yakima County consolidated with other counties in 1957. At that time there were just 10 residents living in the new village founded by settlers near the confluence of the Columbia and Snake Rivers. In 1860–1861 a sawmill was built near current day East Main Street to provide local lumber for shipbuilding yards being constructed along the riverfront north of downtown Yakima Falls; this mill continued until 1914 when it closed due to low demand from consumers for wood produced within walking distance of many homes and businesses now located within downtown Yakima Falls shopping district. A stagecoach stop known as "the old post office" operated from 1865 until 1925 outbuildings next door to today's Post Office building on First Avenue NW served as mail drop for settlers moving into or settling near what is now downtown Yakima Falls during those early years; however service stopped because there were no longer any horses available to carry mail overland from Richland or Cashmere townships south of Marysville (now part of Seattle). In 1870 an electric line connected Marysville with nearby Cashmere after surveyor Aiken found that transportation links between those villages would be necessary if the small community were going to keep up with growing cashier populations within eastern Washington State based upon his earlier recommendations regarding Puget Sound coal mining potential elsewhere in northwest Washington State not yet visible by then due primarily to undeveloped land east of Mount Baker where early coalmining operations had occurred although much later discovered! Today most people know about that early history through memories shared by their grandparents who experienced either travel backpacking or driving down First Avenue NW every day during that time period for mail service!
