The first mention of Marysville was made in 1885 when settlers started to arrive in what is now Marysville from Oregon and California. They named their new community after Mount Olympus, which they saw as a place where gods could be seen or visited. In 1906, the Spokanes acquired title to all of the land east of Interstate 90 and south ofthe Spokane River from the Yakima Nation. This rural area became known as "The Hill Country". In 1907, development began on what would become known as "Moses Lake" due to its proximity to the Missoula Dam site. By 1912, there were over 100 buildings and businesses in Marysville with a population of 1,500 people. During World War I, Marysville played an instrumental role in supplying food for soldiers stationed in eastern Washington and Idaho during 1917-1918. A military dump was located near the town on Moses Lake until it was relocated by order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt during World War II due to concerns about strategic bombing raids against Japan
Marysville is a small town in the Referral Area of Spokane County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Spokane Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlers in Marysville were farmers who arrived around 1845. They named their community after Mount Vernon, Virginia, where George Washington had resided before becoming the first U.S. president. By 1870, Marysville had a post office and three stores. A railroad arrived in 1887 and stimulated development in the town over the next 20 years or so; by 1914, Marysville had 10 businesses and 100 residents. In 1918–19, an epidemic of Spanish flu killed many people in Spokane County and throughout Western Washington; as a result of this event and others such as World War I and World War II (which induced another influx of people to Marysville), the population grew rapidly from 350 to 2,000 during its peak period in the early 1920s. However, by 1930-1931 only about 60% of residents remained within the original Methow Township boundaries; most residents moved out or were forced to leave when that township was established along with neighboring townships during suburbanization within Spokane County (the process which has continued unabated to this day). During World War II (1939-1945), much effort was made by local authorities to provide food for troops moving into Japan through transportation arrangements facilitated by Amtrak; these efforts led to increased production at local mills including those mentioned earlier that helped support wartime growth across Northwest industries After peace returned following 1945—a time characterized by economic stability—the number of residents gradually declined until reaching just under 1,000 by 2000 . Census figures for 2010 show that there are now only about 550 residents living within Methow Township boundaries although some may still visit or live near MarysVILLE on occasion due to its scenic beauty or easy access to public transportation
