Maple Valley, Washington is located in the state of Washington and is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The population was 9,571 at the 2010 census. Maple Valley is a small town located on the east side of Lake Washington and it lies within the close-knit confines of Richland County. The name Maple Valley comes from two early residents, John Dall and his brother Amos Dall, who named their property after maple trees that they saw near their home in eastern Canada. The first settler to arrive in what is now Maple Valley was George Stephenson who built a cabin on land he purchase from Willamette River Indians in 1847. By 1850, Stevenson had also purchased some additional land including present day east side of Lake Washington which he called "Mountain View." In 1858, Stephenson married Mary Lyon and started to build a log house on his new property. It was not until 1861 when he donated land for an Agricultural School which would later become King's College (later Uppsala University). After purchasing more land around Mountain View, Stephenson founded an agricultural society known as The Pioneer Farmers' Association in 1865. Although many people worked seasonally as farmers during this time period there were never any permanent settlers or businesses established due to lack of available resources or interest by those who did establish themselves. However, over time Maple Valley grew slowly but surely because its location made it convenient for travelers looking for a quiet place to rest or stay while traveling through Richland County orSeattle during these days; especially given that there were no railways coming through at that time! In 1919 whenmuchofwhatnowMapleValleywasincorporatedalongwith partofthecityofSeattlebythesamenameitselfnearlyhadntexistedontheworldside! When local residents voted to incorporation they were informed about this by mail just before Christmas! Although incorporation didn't bring much change as most things done at that point such as infrastructure development either went unmentioned or were handled under another name altogether subsequent events have led to much growth throughout history including becoming one of the fastest growing cities in America according to Forbes magazine between 2000-2010! In 1951 when Interstate 5 crossed through central Tacoma it positively impacted what would become known as "The Village" developing mainly along Eastlake Avenue served mostly by shops and restaurants related thereto with little services continuing out into the rural areas surrounding it until now still maintaining somewhat of its rustic feel even though annexation has brought more services into town although much less housing developments have taken place since then aside from renovations/additions made possible largely via private donations over time! Today Maple Valley retains its sense of community spirit despite having minimal amounts if services outside its borders with plenty going on withinits boundaries thanks largely to donations from individuals/groups both large and small alike making up its fabric over all these years
