In 1907 when annexation of Snohomish County began to take place through state legislation (acts 707 and 708), most of what would become Maple Valley was included within Issaquah Township (later annexed into Redmond). Prior to annexation, much of what currently makes up Maple Valley consisted of rural farmland with few roads or amenities available for residency or agricultural production beyond small plot sharecropping techniques used by early pioneers; however, over time infrastructure improvements have been made such as new schools and residences being erected within town boundaries as well as access to various local businesses including hospitals and shopping centers that dot its otherwise rural landscape today. One of Maple Valley's most prominent residents was Mayor Fenton Cope who served from 1912-1915 and again from 1923-1927; he is also known for developing Maple Valley into one of Washington's leading tourist destinations during this time period with his successful promotion of tourism within the community as well as creating various local businesses which thrived until today including several restaurants, two banks, a post office, three churches (one being affiliated with The Episcopal Church), two shopping malls (including one designated as "Washington's Best," which merged with another mall in nearby SeaTac Airport), four hospitals (three operated by King County Hospital Authority), nine schools (six public schools and four private school systems), five golf courses - four opened prior to World War II, one opened after WW II - all contributing significantly to village development over that time frame while dozens more businesses have since been established throughout what is now Garfield County only addingto its current size!
