Maple Valley is located on the east side of Lake Washington and has a population density of . It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma Metropolitan Area. The first people to live in what became Maple Valley were Native Americans who hunted and gathered local berries. In 1855, the first store was built in Maple Valley by Lew Wallace and his family. In 1865, J. Robert Appleman opened a mill which made flour for Tacoma and other cities. The apple orchard that still stands today was started by Judge John Sheehan in 1870 as a way to provide food for his farm animals while he awaited trial for treason against US President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War. After Judge Sheehan’s death in 1872, his children continued to operate the orchard until it sold off in 1916 to George Aitken Burnett who renamed it Burnet Farms after himself (now part of Boeing). On November 3, 1907, the town of Maple Valley incorporated under state law following an election held that year to determine whether or not it would join King County as an unincorporated area within Snohomish County. On December 6th same year voters approved incorporation by referendum with a total turnout of 99%. The town had been proposed by then-mayor Burt Haggerty; however because there was no zoning ordinance in place at that time for towns over one thousand residents (King County had only adopted zoning ordinances for villages), many homes were built without any planning or proper development procedures resulting in future water problems and subsequent building codes being necessary before these homes could be habitable again – something which continues to this day with some properties having multiple sets ofplin walls surrounding them like they did when they were first erected! In 1923, Josef Kretschmer founded Kretschmer Paper Company along Highway 97 south of present day Maple Vale Drive/State Route 518A after leaving Czechoslovakia where he had worked as an agricultural engineer near Prague Forks on what is now Lower Mainland Peninsula since 1911 prior to emigrating here permanently due to political unrest associated with World War I; during this time period he also began growing wheat on land adjoining his paper company site purchased from Drury Township farmer Czarnecky early 1915 although Wheat Growers Cooperative Organization Agreement #5 signed between Kretschmer Paper Company Limited Partnership Between Josef Kretschmer Franziska Linaudice Landesgruppe AG & Czarnecky Grain Farming Co., Inc., entered into force on February 12th 1916 prohibits grain elevator ownership sharing agreements entered into between Canadian companies outside Canada) . Maple Valley is a census-designated place in Kittitas County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. Maple Valley is part of the Wenatchee–East Wenatchee Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Maple Valley" was given to the area by settlers who saw maple trees near the current community site in 1869. In 1887, a post office was established at Maple Valley, and mail continued to be delivered from nearby East Wenatchee until 1959. The first recorded settler in Maple Valley were John Hutton and his family who came from Canada in 1872. They built a log cabin on what is now Indian Road and named it after their farmhouse in England where they had married two years earlier. The Hutton family would remain resident for many years before moving away around 1880 when farming became less profitable due to advances made by irrigation systems developed throughout Western Washington. A second immigrant group arrived soon afterwards via railroads: The Carters came over the Walla Walla River on July 2, 1889. They brought with them their families and drove out all of the Native Americans living within sight of their new home village of Cartersville (now part of Auburn). Over time other groups arrived here as well; Germans settled here during World War I while Japanese residents moved into the area during World War II due to internment camps set up along the Pacific Northwest border following Pearl Harbor attacks
