In 1906 Mr. Akeley opened a grocery store in what is now the old Main Street business district which helped fuel development within the town boundaries over subsequent years including: *the construction of three schools (MapleValley Elementary School, MapleValley Intermediate School & Pioneer Middle School), two churches (St Andrews Episcopal Church & Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church), three businesses (Akeley Grocery Store, Appleton's Mercantile Agency & Smith Cheese Factory) and more than fifty homesites totaling over one hundred acres comprising much of what today remains of MapleValley Township . The initial growth within town limits led to conflicts between developers seeking access to high populated areas outside town limits while also accommodating lower density housing developments inside town boundaries; these disputes eventually led to annexation by Seattle into Snohomish County in 1984 which left many residents without jobs or homes when their township disappeared along with it .
