However there are still some local businesses that continue to thrive including: Hickey's Bakery & Cafe (since 1960), Applebees (since 1984), Village Pizza (founded 1978), Joe's Place Subs & More (1984) and Chuck E Cheese (1985). In addition there are several small farms located within walking distance of downtown which provide much needed local produce for grocery stores throughout King County. There has also been an increase in development around downtown over the past few years with numerous new restaurants/bars/stores opening up along First Avenue N between Ravenna Street NW and Pike Road NW creating quite a mixed commercial district with many restaurants running multiple floors underground making it difficult to take pictures from individual storefronts without getting blocked by construction equipment

Maple Valley is a small town in Thurston County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,993 at the 2010 census. Maple Valley is located on the east side of the Columbia River and about halfway between Seattle and Olympia. It was named for maple trees that grew near the present-day village site. The first settler in Maple Valley was James Hays in 1853. By 1870, there were only six settlers living in Maple Valley. The community began to grow slowly until 1901 when it had a population of 153 people. In 1912, an irrigation project allowed farming to take off in Maple Valley and by 1925, the population had grown to 2,000 people. During World War II, many residents worked on Boeing planes manufacturing munitions in Seattle; however, most residents of Maple Valley stayed home during the war because they did not have essential supplies or access to transportation. In 1951, Mayor John Witherspoon proposed building a high school within the town limits; however, no action was taken until 1959 when voters passed a resolution asking the Thurston County School District if they would finance construction of a new high school within town boundaries. After several failed attempts by developers to build high schools within town limits over the next few years, Mayor Jack Frazee finally approved plans for construction of Northwest High School (now Northwest Middle School) in 1961 with help from donations from local businesses and individuals including Don Sheehan who donated $10 thousand dollars towards its construction fund . This helped turn aroundMAPLE VALLEY's struggling economy which saw growth thanks to increased job opportunities throughout much of suburban Washington during this time period . Aftermaths included more than 2000 jobs added as well as an increase in median household income from $41 million in 1990 to $86 million by 2002 The addition of Northwest High helped revive what had been once an underperforming community; now it features one ofWashington's largest public schools with over 1200 students enrolled grades 8-12
