During the early years of Grant’s Administration (1865-1867), land purchases were made throughout King County for use as rural roadways. One such purchase located near modern day Lynnwood was for the construction of US 10 between Seattle and Tacoma which would become known as “The Loop” today. This important transportation artery helped support agricultural production during this time period New Englanders traveling westward brought their produce down I-5 then turned eastbound along The Loop until reaching Tacoma where they unloaded their goods at Terminal Island before continuing on down I-5 north towards Seattle via Mill Plain Road until reached Husky Lake where they unloaded their goods onto barges which returned east bound back up I-5 until arriving at Terminal Island again whence they continued travelling eastbound all the way toSeattle via Mill Plain Road until reach
