In 1856, the Federal government offered a land grant of .5 acres (2,000 m²) to each settler who agreed to plant potatoes on it as part of a contract. This began what would become Lynnwood's long history of farming. In 1865, the king Ranch became available for purchase from John Denny and his partners by the US Government for $10 per acre (2,000 m²). It had been acquired by Ismail Khodabandian upon his victory over American forces during the Uprising of Iran in 1848. The ranch was divided into two parts: one was given to Jens Hansen as part of his share and another went to Peder Christensen as part of his share; both men founded towns within their respective areas within Lynndie Lakes Township: Hansen's north side[3] and Christensen's south side[4]. In 1870-71,lynndie lakes township formed when King county was created out of Snohomish County. The eastern boundary passed through present day Lynnwood along Interstate 5 then crossed state street continuing westward until it intersected with 4th avenue NE which forms its western border today. lynndie lakes township included much of modern-day Lynnwood including most parts east of I-5 between State Street NW & 8th Ave NE as well as most parts west of I-5 between State Street NW & 10th Ave NE Today some portions east off I-5 near Magnolia are still considered within Lynndie Lakes Township annexation papers from 1970s
