In 1967 Lynden annexed parts of Grant County along with nearby Beaverton to form a new municipality named after then-Senator Neil Moseley (D). In 1984 the annexation led to a name change to Lynden–Grant Township when Grant County merged intoWashington County. However even during tough times there were some constant reminders that this small town located just north of downtown Portland could not keep pace with larger municipalities either becauseof its limited budget or becauseofthefactthatitwasanisolatedcommunity surrounded only by farmland

Lynden, Washington is a census-designated place in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. Lynden was founded by Danish immigrants in 1881 as a small town on the banks of the Snoqualmie River. In 1916 it became an incorporated village and in 1980 it became a city with a limits Exposition and Business District. The current mayor is Dow Constantine and the City Council has 10 members. Lynden's history goes back to 1881 when Danish immigrants arrived on ships from Denmark to start anew in America. They were called "The Danes" because they spoke no English and did not have any rights as American citizens until after their arrival had been established. This community grew quickly due to its location on the riverbank and access to resources such as timber, farmland, water power, etc., which helped fuel growth over time. In 1916 Lynden became one of several towns within King County that were consolidated into one municipality under the name of Everett (later renamed Tacoma). At this point much of what made Lynden so special began to disappear: most notably its agricultural economy which had grown steadily since its founding; however downtown still served as a vibrant business district with plenty of commercial activity including grocery stores, hardware stores, dry cleaning establishments, restaurants and bars/bars/nightlife options for local residents while also providing access to public transportation which allowed residents easy access to jobs outside their homes or businesses near downtown Everett
Lynden was founded in 1853 by Captain John Lynden and his wife, Eliza. The town was named for Captain Lynden, who had been killed during the Mexican-American War. The first settler in Lynden was John Purdy. In 1855, a log cabin was built on the remains of an old wagon train that had stopped at the junction of the Clearwater and Wenatchee Rivers. This became Lynden's first home.
