Lynden, Washington was founded in 1847 by men from the town of Chelan in central Washington Territory. The town was named for General David Lynden, a U.S. Army general who served during the Mexican-American War and later became a U.S. senator from Oregon. The first store on the site opened in 1849 and soon began selling ammunition to settlers in the area. Ammunition production began at a locality called Blacksburg in 1850, and continued until 1907 when the factory closed due to technological advances in other munitions industries. At its peak, Lynden produced over 2 million rounds of ammunition per year, making it one of the largest ammunition manufacturers in North America at that time. In addition to its rifle and pistol rounds, Lynden also manufactured artillery shells, machine gun bullets, and rocket launchers; all of which were used throughout World War I and World War II. After World War II ended, Lynden underwent several transformations which included becoming an importer of firearms components including receivers and stocks for rifles from foreign countries; as well as becoming an operator of firearms sales stores across North America). In recent years, Lynden has enjoyed resurgences as an educational destination with programs such as Gunsmithing Day (a day where students learn about firearm repair) and Heritage Ammunition Days (an event that celebrates various aspects of ammunition history). In addition to these events, Lynden is home to several museums related toGunnery History: The American Rifleman Museum (which preserves period firearms), The Arsenal Museum Of Ammunition & Firearms History (which contains more than 500 guns dating back to 1795),andThe Armory Showcase(which features rare munitions artifacts from around the world).

In 1916, the Lynden Rifle and Pistol Club merged with the Wenatchee Rifle and Pistol Club to form the Wenatchee Rifle and Pistol Association.

The name Lynden comes from three pioneer families that settled here in 1887: Lyman, Reuben and Susie Guthrie. They named their tract "Lynden" after General George Crockett's home state in Texas - "Lynden Station". The first post office opened in 1902 and was called Puyallup; it closed in 1907 due to low mail volume. In 1911, Lynden incorporated as a town under State law No. 8362; it remained an rural township until 1959 when it became part of King County through county government reorganization following World War II

Lynden, Washington is a small town in Puget Sound located on the eastern side of the state of Washington. The population was 5,812 at the 2000 census. Lynden is one of the oldest settlements in Washington and it has been continuously inhabited since 1792. It is also one of the most important historical communities in Puget Sound. The first permanent settler in Lynden was George Vancouver, who arrived with his family in 1792. He founded a trading post on what is now Main Street and he named it Vancouver after himself and his home town of Hubbardsville, Pennsylvania. The post served as an important link between British Columbia and Puget Sound until 1851 when it was closed due to lack of trade opportunities around Seattle. For many years, Lynden operated as a stop on stagecoaches travelling between Olympia and Tacoma. In 1865, construction began on the currentLynden Post Office which replaced an earlier structure which had been destroyed by fire. The building was completed in 1867 and became operational that same year. It stayed in use until 1959 when it was replaced by the current building which stands today on Main Street. The community experienced some significant growth during World War II when many farmers moved to Lynden from other parts of Western Washington to help provide food for troops stationed nearby (during World War II there were more than 20 military posts throughout Puget Sound). Many businesses were established within Lynden during this time including Lane's Department Store (now part of Safeway), Mr & Mrs's Hardware store, Jensens Bakery & Cafe, two grocery stores (the first opened in 1941), four churches (one Baptist, one Methodist Episcopal and two Roman Catholic) as well as many homes (mainly single-family homes). During World War II also saw increased development around Straits Avenue with new housing developments being built along Riverside Drive northward from Highway 99W/US 101W into what are now portions of downtown Bellevue and Redmond respectively; this area now known as "Old Town" or "The North Side". Thanks to both wartime production activities as well as postwar suburbanization much of Lynden's commercial activity ceased circa 1960 while less dense residential development took its place including most notably Stroudsburg Shopping Center across Strait Avenue from Old Town.. However some heavy industry did continue such as Boeing Defense LLCs facility adjacent to Straits Ave., Cummins Engine Company Headquarters near Interstate 590 just outside town limits (it later moved out) along with various other businesses until about 1990; all but one have since left or become defunct withinfive years either due to economic downturns or changing competition from neighboring suburbs.
