Lynden, Washington was founded in 1907 and is the largest city in King County. The city's population increased from just over 1,000 people in 1907 to over 25,000 by 1911. In 1916, Lynden became the first municipality in King County to have a complete water system and began annexation of neighboring communities. In 1933, Lynden was designated as the seat of government for King County. The new county courthouse was completed in 1935 and served as the county seat until its demolition in 1984. At that time, Queen Anne's Park was established within the boundaries of Lynden and it continues to serve as its primary center today. In 1939, Lynden became home to one of America's first "gun shows." The event took place at the now defunct Legion Hall on First Street and featured exhibits from all over North America. In 1907, a post office was established at Lynden and it continued to serve until 1959. In 1955, Interstate 5 was built throughSkagit County and parts of western Washington which included Lynden began to lose residents as people moved away for jobs or other reasons. By 1970, only 1% of the population remained in Lynden; by 2000 that percentage had dropped to 0%. However, due to its location on I-5 and its easy access to surrounding farmland, Lynden has seen rapid growth over the years – from 2,000 residents in 2000 to 10,700 today. Today's economy is based largely on agriculture and ranching with some small businesses also doing well thanks to favorable zoning laws and ample acreage for farming. Some Manufacturing activity also occurs but it is much smaller than what once existed hereabouts

Lynden is a small town in King County, Washington. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County and the only incorporated municipality in King County. Lynden was first settled by Europeans in 1853 and became an official city in 1909. Lynden has a rich history dating back to when it was settled by Europeans in 1853. In that year, Scotsman John Manson set out from his farmstead on the southern edge of what is now Lynden to explore new land west of Seattle. He named his new settlement after Sir Walter Scott's novel, "The Doune Ford". Manson's party arrived at the mouth of what is now Lynden Creek on November 3, 1853. They built a temporary cabin there and began trading with local indigenous people for goods they had brought overland from Asia or Canada. Eventually, they developed a more permanent community around their cabin called Park Rapids which they renamed Lynden after themselves on December 6th, 1853. This initial settlement allowed European Americans opportunity to start their own businesses and build their own homes; something that would be difficult to do in today's society. In fact, many of these early entrepreneurs were key figures in founding some of Seattle's most important institutions such as the University of Washington (UW) and Boeing Company (BA). Today, much of this original infrastructure still remains – including the historic Park Rapids Cafe where you can enjoy fresh squeezed juices and pastries while watching world-renowned performers perform live outside your door!
