Longview is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,822 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of King County. The first white person to settle in Longview was Levi Chamberlain in 1847. He and his family built a log cabin on the edge of what is now downtown Longview. In 1850, John Wesley Powell passed through Longview on his journey to find new water sources for the Union Pacific Railroad. After Powell's visit, many farmers started settling around what is now downtown Longview. By 1870, most of the original settlers had moved out because of a lack of available land or disease-carrying mosquitoes that were then prevalent in Washington State. In 1875, lumber magnate James Buchanan Clark donated 1,000 acres (4 km²) of land to help build a railroad bypassing Seattle for Everett and Tacoma. The tracks were laid through present-day Longview and many houses were built along them as workers arrived from various parts of WA to help build the railway. By 1880, there were over 150 businesses in town with 3 churches and 2 schools; it was an bustling community! During World War II much effort went into developing weaponry plants throughout Western US so that we could fight against Nazi Germany; however much effort also went into creating housing for war workers which soon became known as "The Hi-lo Zone". Many homes still stand today evidence that this area played an important role during those years – thank you indeed! When America entered into World War II again after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 everyone knew what would happen next: Japan would invade our country! Of course they did! Our military tried everything possible including using all sorts of tactics like use submarines while Japanese forces invaded us – but it didn't work because they had no airfields anywhere near our coast where their planes could fly! But wait – don't forget about those magical words printed on paper!: "We Will Triumph Over You!" And so we did! After hard fighting our troops finally liberated Hawaii from Japan just before Christmas 1943 and American civilians began moving back into their own neighborhoods once again...except for Main Street which remained pretty much unchanged since before Pearl Harbor even though people had left for good by then? No way… So something must have happened to make that street turn red again 🙂 We're pretty sure it wasn't fluoridation though 😉 Anyway….. back to story: On January 20th 1945 President Harry S Truman announced Project Neptune which called for building 26 miles (41 km) of new coastline along Puget Sound between Seattle and Olympia–including 4 miles (6 km) at Longview Beach! This project was supposed to be completed within 5 years but it dragged on until 1948 when construction finally began thanks largely to government subsidies!!! Today there are several beaches right near downtown Longview including Sunset Beach & North Sound Beach!! What an amazing placeLongwood has become…. As one resident said recently: “It’s been great being able to watch all these people come & go since I moved here 10 years ago”

Longview is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 9,545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bellevue–Anacortes–Woodinville metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Longview was Levi Coffin who arrived in 1847. He and his family established a farm on the site of what is now Longview High School. In 1868, John Cook purchased land from Levi Coffin and built a home on it which he named Cook House. Cook House still stands today as a historic house museum. Other early settlers include Daniel Tingley (1863), George Burroughs (1869), Hiram Doolittle (1872-76), Charles Ladd (1875-77) and Ebenezer Weir (1879). In 1896, Longview became an incorporated town with a mayor and six trustees; it had no school district. The first post office was opened in 1900 and closed in 1966; the last mail received there was dated November 15, 1951. In 1924, the Everett Bridge Company built the first toll bridge over Whitman Creek across Whitman Creek near present day Longview Elementary School; this bridge replaced an earlier ferry crossing over Whitman Creek that had been destroyed by flooding during World War I(). The toll booth at this crossing remain extant to this day though operation has been discontinued since 1981 due to budget constraints within King County government). Later that year, Everett Bridge Company merged with Oregon Highway 20 Road Corporation to form state Route 99W; local road designation continued until 1978 when all US Routes 100E through Bellevue were rerouted south along SR 99W to improve intercity travel between those towns and Seattle (). That same year saw the opening of Clark's grocery store on Main Street which remains open today as one of Longview's only stores (). In 1926-27, Everett Bridge Company constructed the then largest dam ever located within King County at White Sands Lake.. This dam completely filled up Reeve Beach just east of current day Tacoma thanks to donations from local farmers who wanted their land preserved for fishing opportunities!. At its completion, White Sands Lake was about long but only wide at its widest point - making it one of the widest dams ever erected! The Eisenhower Interstate Highway System was completed in 1959 including US 98W which ran parallel to WA 99W northwest of Everett Bridge Company property line; these two highways are now known as I-5 and I-5S respectively
