Longview is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,895 at the 2010 census. The mayor is Kathy Dahlgren and the town council is made up of four members. Longview is located on the Eastern Oregon Railway and Navigation Company (EOR&N) line. The first Europeans to visit the area were fur traders in the early 1800s. In 1854, Congress authorized the construction of a railway from Seattle to Vancouver, British Columbia. The EOR&N was formed as part of this project and began construction in 1855. In 1862, when it reached Longview, the railroad became known as the "Longview Branch." In 1892–93, a group of businessmen organized what would become Longview School District #1. This district served all of King County until 1978—when it was divided into three districts: Longview-Northwest (LNW), Northwest (NW), and Southwestern (SW). In 2002–03, LNW was changed to LongVIEW SCHOOL DISTRICT #2 and SW became LONGVIEW-CENTRAL (LVC). According to the 2010 census, there are 5,895 people living in Longviewtownship[4][5]. In 1932, Longview merged with nearby Centerville to form the present day Longview Township. The town continued to grow until 1975 when it reached its current size. Today, Longview is a vibrant community with many cultural attractions including a library, theater complex, art galleries, museum/gallery system (including several world-renowned collections), baseball stadium/park that has been home to both Washington Senators (the now-defunct team) and Seattle Mariners (the current team) since 1903 and numerous other businesses and services including restaurants., schools (USD #1), police department (USD #3), post office (USD#2), medical clinic (USD#5), ambulance service (#2) The history of this small but longstanding community can be traced back more than 120 years ago when Captain James Long founded what would become Longview on January 24th1851 as part of what he called “The Northwest Passage Expedition” in order to establish trade routes between Vancouver Island Ferry Village on Canada’s mainland Ontario Peninsula and Elliott Bay at Puget Sound on Alaska’s mainland Russian Empire Territory
